Kaaba Khan joins Emerge Legal to lead Media & Entertainment practice

Emerge Legal has onboarded KaabaKhan in a leadership position to head the firm’s media and entertainment, intellectual property and commercial practice out of its Mumbai office.

Khan is a graduate of New Law College, Bharati Vidyapeeth University.

She has experience across the media, entertainment and intellectual property, business and commercial law space. She joins from GK Legal, where she was a Partner advising on media and entertainment, intellectual property, commercial and business law matters real estate and land. Earlier in her career, she was at Trilegal, where she worked on capital markets transactions, including initial public offerings and debt issuances.

At Emerge Legal, Khan will lead the firm’s Mumbai team on content production and acquisition, rights licensing and distribution, talent and endorsement arrangements, and the commercial contracting that sits around them. Her practice will also cover trademark and copyright protection and enforcement, and cross-border transactions where Indian rights holders and Indian content sit on one side of the table as well as transactions in relation to commercial and business law.

Speaking on her joining, Khan said,

Media and intellectual property mandates are usually run in isolation from the corporate and regulatory work sitting behind them, which isn’t how clients actually experience their problems. Having specialized in negotiations and representation, I know that a single rights deal now carries a data question, a licensing issue, and often a potential dispute, all within the same engagement. My practice acts as a bridge between business law and IP law, and this platform lets me run those elements together seamlessly. Mumbai is the right place to build that integrated practice, and I intend to build it properly.”
