“We pondered extensively over how to convey the flow of time that originally existed inside the manga panels.” reflects Executive Director Naoko Yamada. From deliberations with Director Abel Gongora and Character Design and Sakuga Chief Kenichi Yoshida over techniques like erasing lines outside the main outlines, how was this captivating work brought to life? The newly released making-of video offers a glimpse into the incredible level of detail and craftsmanship embedded in every frame.
To capture an authentic sense of place, location scouting was conducted in Mongolia, the main setting of the story. During this field research, which helped shape the anime’s magnificent scale, the directors experienced the country’s majestic natural landscapes and nomadic way of life firsthand, translating those genuine real-world impressions into the animation.
Another of the series’ greatest strengths is its cast of distinctive and deeply compelling characters. The newly released video also features insightful interviews with Akira Sekine (the voice of Sitara), Ami Koshimizu (the voice of Töregene), and Jun Saito (the voice of Muhammad), as they share their passion for the project. After losing her mother and being torn far from her homeland, a young girl named Sitara is taken in by Fatima, a kind-hearted lady from a family of scholars.

Deeply moved by the words of Fatima’s son, Muhammad, Sitara comes to understand the possibilities and importance of knowledge and begins to deepen her education.
