As revealed by Circana, 63 percent of new physical games sold this year in the United States have been on Nintendo platforms. It’s unclear what the breakdown is between Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch.
For those wondering, 32 percent of physical games sold were on PlayStation platforms. Xbox had just over four percent.
Sony announced that it would stop producing discs for PlayStation games last month. However, it doesn’t seem as though Nintendo (and even Microsoft) has any plans to do something similar. Clearly there’s still a lot of interest in physical releases on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch.
Circana’s report mentions that new physical software sales for July 2026 hit an all-time July low of $85 million across all platforms. That said, it’s important to stress that this is new sales, and July was lighter on new releases. There’s that along with the fact that general spending has declined.
In its latest financial report, Nintendo showed that 38.5 percent of its sales worldwide are still physical. 61.5 percent of software sales were digital. Digital sales stood at 132.7 billion yen, which is a 90 percent increase year over year.
Circana also shared a list of the best-selling games of July, which included the debut of Splatoon Raiders. The full results can be found here.
