Ahead of its launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, Bandai Namco and Rebel Wolves provided the first proper look at The Blood of Dawnwalker on consoles, confirming with this new video that PlayStation 5 Pro players will get to experience the best console version, although it will only be on PC that the game will hit 60 FPS.
The new footage confirms all the details on the console version’s display modes, starting from the PlayStation 5 Pro modes:
- Quality: Dynamic 4K, Targeting 30 FPS
- Balanced: Dynamic 4K, Targeting 40 FPS
Looking at the footage, the game looks quite sharp in Quality mode, so it’s very likely that the dynamic resolution scaling in place will often reach resolutions close to 4K resolution. Unfortunately, the new footage doesn’t show the game running in Balanced mode, but, as it targets 40 FPS, it’s likely the game will look less sharp in this display mode, as more horsepower will be required to hit the framerate target.
The PlayStation 5 version of The Blood of Dawnwalker will come with the same display modes as the PlayStation 5 Pro version. However, looking at the footage, it’s clear how dynamic resolution scaling will be more aggressive inQuality mode, as the image looks noticeably less sharp. The Xbox Series X version will also come with the same display modes, and the differences from the PlayStation 5 release seem minimal overall.
Unfortunately, the video doesn’t show The Blood of Dawnwalker running on the Xbox Series S, which is definitely a cause for concern, considering it is the weakest among the systems the game is launching on.
While it is disappointing that the PlayStation 5 Pro won’t deliver 60 FPS gameplay in The Blood of Dawnwalker, it doesn’t come as a complete surprise, considering it is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and that Rebel Wolves is a smaller team, compared to other studios that have the manpower to fully optimize for the system, and the demanding PC system requirements. Still, 40 FPS is a decent enough compromise, and with an image quality that is sure to surpass that of the base consoles in the same display modes, Sony’s mid-generation refresh will deliver the best possible experience on consoles.
