Krysten Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again has set up her character for a perfect new arc in the rumored reboot of her Netflix show. After Netflix canceled Jessica Jones in 2019, it seemed like Ritter’s time as the superpowered private investigator might be done, until Marvel Studios made the decision to reboot Netflix’s Marvel universe in Daredevil: Born Again, with the same actors playing their characters. It took until Season 2 for Ritter to reprise her role as Jessica Jones alongside Charlie Cox as Daredevil, but now that she’s back, her character has a clear path going forward.
Ritter only returned as Jessica for a few episodes in Daredevil: Born Again, where she appeared to help Daredevil in his fight against Wilson Fisk, but her return after so many years came with some interesting character changes. Jessica’s return in Episode 6 immediately established that the New York City P.I. has settled down and is now the mother to a young daughter, Danielle Cage. Danielle’s father is none other than Jessica’s on-again-off-again love interest fromThe Defenders saga: Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who also made a late-stage appearance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Another new foil in Jessica’s story is that her pregnancy seemed to cause unexplained glitches in her powers, intermittently switching them off, sometimes in critical moments. Jessica noted to Matt Murdock that after she gave birth to Danielle, her powers “drop out sometimes, and then come back.”

This combination of new elements in Jessica’s story set up a strong character arc for her going forward. A new Jessica Jones reboot could explore Jessica’s life as a mother to a possibly superpowered child, as well as her relationship with Luke, now that they’re parents. On top of that, there’s still the mystery around Jessica’s glitching powers to solve, which would make for another compelling story in a solo show.
Ritter and her co-stars Colter and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) will be back in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, but the popularity of their return, particularly Ritter’s, has raised questions of whether Marvel may look to reboot the Netflix universe with individual shows for each character again.
Marvel TV executive Brad Winderbaum has hinted that a Jessica Jones solo project may be coming “sooner than you think,”and with the storyline that’s been set up in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 for Ritter’s character, there’s definitely enough there to justify exploration in a separate show.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones Reboot Would Be New Territory for the MCU

Should Marvel Studios decide to continue Jessica Jones’ story in a reboot of her show, it could offer the MCU fresh territory to explore.
Marvel Studios has had its share of mother characters and mother figures on-screen throughout its 18 years, but motherhood has never really been the focal theme of an MCU project.
WandaVision introduced Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff as a new mother to twins, Tommy and Billy, whom she briefly parented alongside Vision, but the mystery around their circumstances in Westview was always at the core of their narrative. 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps also broke new ground, with Sue Storm giving birth to Franklin Richards in the film, which had an impact on both her character and the Fantastic family. Yet again, the focus was more on the family as a whole than on motherhood itself.
Where a Jessica Jones project could explore this differently is directly through Jessica’s evolution as a mother. When audiences first met Jessica in the Netflix series, she was traumatized, cynical, and very much a reluctant hero. While she undergoes many changes and lessons in the Netflix series, a modern Jessica Jones project could explore how motherhood has affected her and shaped her as a hero.
This story would also stand apart in the MCU, being set in the same Daredevil: Born Again adjacent world, which is much more grounded and gritty than anything on the MCU film side. The Jessica Jones reboot could shed a more realistic light on the complexities of motherhood, particularly mother-daughter relationships, while still adding a fresh spin by showing how this impacts superpowered individuals, like Jessica, who are balancing parenting and crimefighting.
The series would also have the chance to dig into the complexities of superhero relationships by bringing in Luke Cage, as it was already hinted that the pair might have a strained relationship after Luke went to work for Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard). The complexities of Luke and Jessica’s relationship have often been at the heart of their Netflix solo shows, so pairing them up again in the Jessica Jones reboot as parents would be a new avenue for both their characters.
