The horror landscape of the Exquisite Corpses universe is expanding yet again. Image Comics and James Tynion IV’s production house, Tiny Onion, have announced that Eisner Award-winning writer Pornsak Pichetshote and acclaimed artist Alberto Ponticelli are teaming up for Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman.
The five-issue miniseries, which arrives in comic shops on November 4, 2026, is being positioned as “Season 1.5.” It serves as a bridge between the first season of the breakout horror hit and the upcoming second season.
The Premise
The story follows Laura, along with fellow survivors Xavi and Jason, as they attempt to move on from the harrowing events of the first series. However, two years after the chaos unleashed in their hometown and Laura’s performance as the “Last Gunman,” the survivors remain haunted. As the legacy of the golden mask refuses to stay silent, the trio finds their lives in danger once again.
Writer Pornsak Pichetshote (Absolute Green Arrow), who contributed to the first season as part of the “Corpse Crew,” says the series is a deep dive into one of his favorite horror subgenres: the “Final Girl” story.
“What happens after you survive the twelve deadliest slashers of all time, and now are forced to uncover the secret history of the organization behind them and how they’ve shaped the course of America?” Pichetshote said in the announcement. “It’s been fun to take the lessons I’ve learned on the Absolute Green Arrow series to tell a very different story about serial killers and billionaires.”
The Creative Team
Joining Pichetshote and Ponticelli on the project are Eisner Award-winning colorist Jordie Bellaire (The Nice House) and letterer Becca Carey (Radiant Black). Ponticelli, known for his work on Unknown Soldier, noted his excitement at reuniting with Pichetshote, aiming to bring a “visual roughness” to the book through textures and grit that complement the story’s intensity.
A Growing Franchise
Since its 2025 debut, Exquisite Corpses has been a juggernaut for Image Comics, with over 700,000 issues sold to date. This latest release follows a string of successful spin-offs, including Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy, which launched in July, and the upcoming Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer, launching in September.
With a feature film adaptation already in development at Tiny Onion and Lyrical Media, the Exquisite Corpses franchise is showing no signs of slowing down.
Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman #1 hits shelves on Wednesday, November 4, featuring a main cover by Ponticelli and Bellaire, along with variants from Rafael Albuquerque, Leandro Fernandez, Chris Brunner, and Sebastian Fiumara.
