Dark Horse has revealed Lady Baltimore: The Constant Death of Dr. Rose, a new three-issue series by Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, Bridgit Connell, Michelle Madsen, and Clem Robins. Debuting this December, the retro horror adventure comic will find Sofia Valk (Lord Baltimore’s widow) investigating rumors of a monster in a remote town. There, the ghost of her husband reveals their old ally, Dr. Rose, has become possessed with the living embodiment of the plague.
Golden says, “From the first issue of Baltimore until we don’t tell these stories anymore, this is all one world — one story. To us, Dr. Rose was a courageous ally and stalwart friend to Lord Baltimore, who met a horrifying end. But to the Nazis and the evil witches they’ve teamed up with, Dr. Rose’s terrifying transformation makes for a devastating weapon. Sofia — Lady Baltimore — can’t let her old friend be used that way, no matter what it costs her to put a stop to it.”
Artist Bridgit Connell adds, “In Baltimore, the character arc of Dr. Rose was a fascinating one… from wartime doctor meeting friends in a tavern to book obsessed monster in hiding. Being able to illustrate further exploration into his storyline, with Sofia and her kickbutt crew as our guides, was a real treat. It gets pretty ooey, gooey, fun, and freaky!”
Unlike many Mignola series, Lady Baltimore is not set in the Hellboy Universe, but the Outerverse, which he originated with Golden in the illustrated 2007 novel <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore,_or,_The_Steadfast_Tin_Soldier_and_the_Vampire" rel="nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Baltimore, or, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire. Sofia debuted in the 2021 comics series Lady Baltimore: The Witch Queens, and subsequently starred in 2023’s The Dream of Ikelos, and 2025’s The Daughters of Medusa (which haven’t been collected in trade or hardback yet).
