Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman was bittersweet

What an exciting performance it is to play the Caped Crusader Batman for the final time nearly two years after his death.

In 2022, Conroy, the iconic voice actor and the man behind the Batman that so many of us grew up with, tragically passed away. The actor has appeared in numerous projects over the years, most notably as Batman and Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Animated Series, reprising the role multiple times over the years, including on Rocksteady’s Arkham game. Conroy posthumously appeared in this year’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League again as the character’s Arkham incarnation, but reports earlier this year suggested that this wouldn’t be his return to the character Last appearance. Now, a clip from the latest DC animated film, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3, has been released, featuring Conroy’s final performance as the original version he played in the animated series years ago.

You can watch the clip above, which shows him fighting the Joker (played by his co-star from the classic show, Mark Hamill, who retired from the character after Conroy’s death). The two face off in Gotham as always, although this time the entire universe is crumbling around them. It’s truly a bittersweet film, especially because of what Batman says in the clip. As everything falls apart around them, the Joker sarcastically notes that it’s the end of the world, and Batman is spending it with him.

In turn, the caped crusader responded: “I care about the Joker. About Gotham, about justice. If it has to end, at least I’m going to go out like this… and be Batman.” It’s obviously a fitting line, for Might be a bit of a tearjerker for many fans.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3 is now available on digital.
