It’s a busy August ahead at Netflix, with the arrival of a new show from Ricky Gervais, a lush new historical drama, and so much more. Which upcoming series are we most excited about? Let’s take a tour.
So far this summer, Netflix has debuted a few big new series, from historical drama The Little House on the Prairie to comedies like Will Ferrell’s The Hawk. This August, the streamer continues to offer a wide range of genres, including the arrival of popular licensed titles and marking the return of fan-favorite series like Outer Banks and My Life With the Walter Boys. In this article, we walk you through 8 of our most anticipated new arrivals, both Netflix Original and licensed.

My Life With the Walter Boys (Season 3)

Just over a year after the love triangle bombshell dropped in My Life With the Walter Boys Season 2, we’re already returning to Silver Falls once more—and this season promises more drama than ever before. The upcoming 10-episode season marks the return of our series leads — Nikki Rodriguez (Jackie), Noah LaLonde (Cole), and Ashby Gentry (Alex) — and also sees the arrival of new series regulars, including Naveen Paddock (Anything’s Possible) as Eliot, Chad Rook (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) as Mac, and Erin Karpluk (Being Erica) as Hannah.
“The last time we saw the Walters, Jackie and Cole finally confessed their love for each other, only for Jackie’s boyfriend — and Cole’s brother — Alex to overhear,” the official Season 3 synopsis reads. “But their conversation was interrupted when Walter patriarch George was rushed to the hospital. Season 3 sees the Walters realize what’s important in the fallout from this – and discover that it’s okay to go after what you want. With their love lives still hanging in the balance, Alex turns to his new rodeo riding team, and Cole gets back in the driver’s seat of his life, literally, when a race car driver sees potential in him. Meanwhile, Jackie pours her heart into developing the town’s community space. But when a childhood friend arrives from New York, the life she left behind proves harder to forget than she expected.”
Alley Cats

Comedy legend Ricky Gervais knows a thing or two about how to make a witty drama that’s poignant enough to break your heart, while also carrying cynical undertones. Look no further than After-Life, a series that had everyone feeling a rollercoaster of emotions. His next series, Alley Cats, is an animated offering, taking viewers into the world from the perspective of stray cats, ostracised by humans, and left to fend for themselves in the streets. With this series, Gervais primarily tackles themes of loneliness and belonging.
Gervais provides voice work himself, and he also enlisted the voice talents of several longtime collaborators, including Diane Morgan (After-Life) as Olive, David Earl (Derek) as Puke, Tom Basden (After-Life) as Ponce, and Andrew Brooke (David Brent: Life on the Road) as Fang.
Revival (Season 1)
Comic book publisher Image Comics has a pretty esteemed history when it comes to TV adaptations; look no further than Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. In 2025, SyFy picked up a TV adaptation of Revival, based on Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton’s subversive zombie comic. The series sets the scene in a small town in Wisconsin, where the dead come back to life. However, they don’t return in the way you might imagine. They come back from the dead with their memories and personalities intact, although they are now immortal, able to heal rapidly, and prone to violent outbursts.
The series stars Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp) as well as Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen. Former The Walking Dead star Steven Ogg (also known for voicing Trevor in GTA V) is also involved. The 10-episode debut season garnered fantastic ratings. Over a year after it debuted, Revival hasn’t been renewed for another season, which is particularly annoying after fans were left on a big cliffhanger.
Blood Sacrifice

The first thing that stands out about Netflix’s upcoming ‘Nordic Noir’ thriller Blood Sacrifice is its creator George Key, who previously spearheaded such projects as Lupin and AppleTV’s Hijack. The series is also helmed by Kristoffer Nyholm, who previously worked on Steven Knight’s fan-favorite BBC drama Taboo, starring Tom Hardy. With a team like that behind it, it’s hard not to get excited about Blood Sacrifice.
The 5-part drama takes place in Stockholm after the brutal murder of two police officers. As investigator Thomas Berg (Jakob Oftebro) delves deeper into the case, helped by his retired detective father Alfred (Peter Andersson), he notices that the serial killer appears to be deliberately targeting members of the police. But why? Together, they put aside their differences and try to solve the case.
Outer Banks (Season 5)

On August 20, Outer Banks returns for one final instalment. The 10-episode fifth season marks the end of the road, releasing all at once rather than the split release of its predecessor. Season 4 ended in the most tragic way, with the death of JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow) in Morocco after trading the Blue Crown to save Kiara (Madison Bailey). The upcoming season picks up shortly after, with the Pogues mourning his death. Meanwhile, Dalia (Pollyanna McIntosh), the Corsairs, and the Kooks continue their scheming to ensure that the Pogues may never return home.
It’s all set up to be an epic, action-packed final outing. It’s the Pogues against the world.
My Brilliant Career
Distribution: Netflix Original
Netflix is going big on historical dramas based on classics this year. Of course, we’ve got new takes on Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice and John Steinbeck’s East of Eden to look forward to. But before those, the streamer will debut a new adaptation of Miles Franklin’s seminal novel My Brilliant Career, set in a rural Australian town in the early 19th century, where an ambitious young woman plans to become a writer, only for her journey to be scuppered by a budding romance with a young man, as well as myriad other suitors.
The 6-episode adaptation is headlined by Phillipa Northeast (The Family Next Door) as Sybylla, Christopher Chung (Slow Horses) as Harry, Sherry-Lee Watson (Heartbreak High) as Nell, and Jake Dunn (Renegade Nell) as Frank.
Film buffs out there may remember the most significant adaptation of the story, coming in the form of My Brilliant Career (1979) starring Judy Davis as Sybylla and the late, legendary Sam Neill as Harry. The story was also adapted into a hit stage musical. The Netflix adaptation, however, will no doubt project the story into a much more contemporary demographic.
Leanne (Season 2)

In recent years, Netflix has really struggled to establish itself as a top destination for multi-cam sitcoms. But there’s one big exception to that statement: Leanne. Created by Susan McMartin, Chuck Lorre, and Leanne Morgan, the series first premiered in 2025 and shot up the Netflix charts, peaking at 7th place on the global TV charts in its first week of release. The series later received Primetime Emmy consideration.
The comedy follows Leanne (played by Leanne Morgan), whose life is turned upside down when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Determined to start her life over again as a grandmother in menopause, she navigates the new chapter with the help of her family, friends, and jello salad.
The new season has added a few new cast members, including Lainey Wilson, Jaime Pressly, Billy Gardell, and Tyne Daly. Read our full guide on Leanne Season 2 here.
The Sex Lives of College Girls (Seasons 1-3)
The Sex Lives of College Girls is a pretty major licensed pickup for Netflix. Created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, the teen comedy-drama is exactly what the title suggests, following four late teens — Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet), Bela (Amrit Kaur), Leighton (Renee Rapp), and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) — at Essex College in Vermont, navigating their romantic lives and getting caught up in love triangles and scores of drama.
Running for three seasons before being cancelled, The Sex Lives of College Girls was a major streaming hit. It notably helped propel star Renee Rapp into international pop stardom.
The licensing deal continues a fruitful partnership between Netflix and creator Mindy Kaling, who has previously made the series Never Have I Ever and Running Point at the streamer.
