Doctor Who fans are divided over the season one finale because it didn’t answer all their questions. The answers it gave did disappoint some, but made perfect sense to others.
If you’re one of those people who was confused, frustrated, or annoyed by the season finale, the good news is that season 2 will probably address most of your concerns.
Doctor Who review: Doctor faces deadly enemy
As usual, the producers are playing it safe and haven’t released many official spoilers yet.
Still, we know quite a bit about Doctor Who season 2.
Is Doctor Who renewed?
Yes! The first series of Doctor Who was filmed so long ago that production on the second series began before the first series ended.
If you hear that the series is in danger of being canceled, don’t panic. Indeed, filming for Doctor Who season 3 has not yet begun; however, the BBC has not yet ordered any shows to begin production in 2025.
This is similar to how most US shows are only renewed for one year at a time, so there won’t be any word on whether your favorite show will return in 2026.
While we wait for news on season three, season two is definitely on its way.
What happened at the end of Doctor Who season 1?
Season 1 ends with one of the most exciting and terrifying stories yet.
At the end of the first part of the two-part season finale, the Doctor learns that Susan Twist’s character is not the granddaughter he had hoped for – she is Sutek, the ancient creature the Doctor once prevented from escaping. grim Reaper.
RELATED: Doctor Who season 1 finale explained: How did the Doctor defeat death?
Sutek is determined to destroy all life in the universe.
He explains that 49 years ago, when the Doctor tried to expel him into the time vortex, he infiltrated the TARDIS and used the machine’s memory bank to create a copy of a woman who resembled the Doctor’s granddaughter wherever the Doctor went. replica.
As a result, Sutek has an army of “angels of death” across the universe who can spread deadly dust and kill anyone who comes into contact with it. However, once the Doctor gets over his guilt over what he unleashed, he is able to undo the damage.
The Doctor straps Sutek to the back of the TARDIS and flies backwards over all the areas Sutek attacked, forcing the god to regenerate. After doing this, he releases Sutek while lamenting that he hates killing people like him.
After Sutek was disposed of, the Doctor returned to UNIT, where he conducted a DNA test to help Ruby learn who her biological mother was.
Ruby’s biological mother was a scared teenager who abandoned Ruby on the doorstep of a church because she felt it was the safest place for her child.
The discovery upset some fans, who believed Ruby was related to the Time Lords or other powerful race of beings.
Regardless, the Doctor convinces Ruby to keep the TARDIS so she can get to know her family of origin. Still, after he disappears, the mysterious Mrs. Flood breaks the fourth wall, telling the audience that the Doctor’s story will “end in horror.”
Will Sutekh reappear in season 2?
It was speculated that Sutek was already dead when the Doctor threw him into the time vortex, but since the Doctor was wrong the first time he thought he destroyed him, the likelihood that Sutek was alive and biding his time is slim.

If Sutek is still alive, it’s unlikely that the next fight will happen in season two.
Showrunner Russell T. Davies has made it clear that Sutek is dead and has made it clear that he has no intention of resurrecting him for new stories anytime soon.
However, Sutek is one of the most feared gods in the Discord pantheon, so Davis may change his mind in the future, or other producers may decide to return Sutek for the third round.
Additionally, dying at Sutek’s hands and being resurrected may have some after-effects, especially since Kate Lethbridge-Stewart has stated that she can’t fully remember what happened after she turned to dust.
What storylines are there in Doctor Who season 2?
While we don’t yet know what specific adventures the Doctor will have, the new season will unravel one big mystery: who Mrs. Flood really is.
Mrs. Flood plays Ruby’s eccentric but kind neighbor in the 2023 Christmas special. However, she soon proved otherwise.
She knows what the TARDIS is and encourages Ruby to go inside, which is just the beginning of her strange behavior.
In “73 Yards” she was the only one not haunted by the mysterious ghost who followed Ruby, and in the finale she seemed to turn evil when she and Cherry were alone.
Actress Anita Dobson, who plays Mrs. Flood, said she had no idea of her character’s true identity. However, she also noted that more will be revealed in season two, and she’s excited to learn more with each script she receives.
With Ruby leaving the TARDIS to reunite with her birth family, but is expected to travel with the Doctor again in season 2, early storylines may revolve around her reasons for reuniting with her time-traveling friends.

Speculation is rife that her grandmother will also play a bigger role this time around.
So far, Cherry is the only one who knows that Mrs. Flood is not the lovely woman she pretends to be, and once Ruby and Kara discover the truth, they will do whatever it takes to protect Cherry.
Finally, Russell T Davies suggests that there was more to Ruby’s birth family than meets the eye.
While her biological mother is “ordinary,” we don’t yet know her father.
Eagle-eared viewers are wondering if there is a connection between his name, William Garnet, and the evil fascist politician Roger Ap GWilliam, who appears to be in power in 2046 fixed point in time.
As well as solving these mysteries and the question of who picked up the master’s gold tooth at the end of “Chuckles,” the Doctor and company may also face the monster of the week, as they do in most episodes. Do that.
The Daleks, Cybermen and Master were all absent from the first season, giving them a break after being overexposed during the Thirteenth Doctor’s tenure, but any of them could pop up in brand new stories. UNIT is also likely to appear at least once.
Now, the headquarters is only a short drive from Sunday House, and Ruby has already struck up a friendship with Rose Noble, so it’s logical to include them in whatever happens with Mrs. Flood. UNIT may also help the Doctor investigate various other alien phenomena.
Which actors will return for Doctor Who season 2?
Doctor Who has a unique feature of occasionally reinventing its protagonist when the Doctor regenerates after being fatally wounded. However, Nuti Gatwa will continue to play the Doctor in the new season and any third series that may be commissioned.
Ruby (Milly Gibson) has been confirmed to appear in series two, despite her decision to leave the TARDIS after the season finale.

Actress Verada Sethu, who guest-starred as Mundy Flynn in “Boom,” will also join the cast as an as-yet-unnamed costar. While she may reprise her role as Mundy, it’s more likely she’ll be playing a new character.
Doctor Who often recruits guest stars to join the main cast to play different characters – Colin Baker, who plays the Sixth Doctor, is one such guest star! Besides, it wouldn’t make sense for Mundy to leave the orphans she was responsible for and travel the universe with the Doctor.
Anita Dobson will also play Mrs. Flood.
Many characters may appear repeatedly:
-
Michelle Greenidge as Carla Sunday
-
Angela Winter as Cherry Sunday
-
Gemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart
-
Bonnie Langford as Melanie Bush
- Yasmine Finney as Rose Noble
None of these characters have been confirmed, but are all logical possibilities. Ruby’s family will have to be involved in her new storyline, especially when it intersects with Mrs. Flood’s true identity. If UNIT is involved, Kate and Melanie are likely to appear.
Rose was slated for the UNIT job but didn’t have much to do in the final quarter of the season. This could set the stage for her to play a bigger role the next time UNIT is involved in the story.
When does Doctor Who season 2 premiere?
The Doctor Who Christmas special will air on Christmas Day 2024 and will feature actress Nicola Coughlan in a guest appearance rather than her regular costar.
A specific date for the new season’s return following the Christmas special has not yet been announced. However, if the schedule is similar to that of the first season, it will premiere in early May 2025.
The first season premiered on Disney+ 24 hours before it aired on the BBC and is available on BBC iPlayer in the UK, so the new season will likely follow the same schedule.
How many episodes will Doctor Who season 2 have?
Including the Christmas special, Doctor Who season 2 is expected to have nine episodes, two fewer than season 1, considering three special episodes aired before the start of season 1.
This is disappointing news. Previous seasons had 12 to 15 episodes, which gave the story more time to develop, whereas the first season of the soft reboot felt a bit rushed due to its shorter episode count.
The good news is that, while this season is equally short, we probably won’t have any more Doctor-Lite episodes.
Ncuti Gatwa missed two episodes of the first season because he was still filming the final season of Sex Education, but he no longer has scheduling conflicts.
Is there a trailer for Doctor Who Season 2?
A dialogue-less trailer shows off Vedara Sethu joining the cast, albeit not much.
