superstar artist athlete will receive a special tribute book from 2000 AD – newly announced “The Art of the SWAT Judge” by Jock promises to showcase the artist’s extraordinary take on the classic character, as well as his evolution as an artist from green newbie to grizzled veteran. The 11⅛ × 8½-inch, 176-page hardcover book will be released on May 7, 2025, retailing for £34.99 (approximately US$45), and is now available for pre-order on the 2000 AD online store.
“The Art of the SWAT Judge” by Jock Promises to be an extensive look at the artist’s career through his time depicting Stoneface in comics over the years – with a dedicated section dedicated to his cult classic concept art Pete Travis –Director of the big screen adaptation, Special Police Judge (2012). In addition to visuals, 2000 AD Brand Manager, Writer and One-Time Journalist Michael Molcher There will be an extensive interview with Jock to tie it all together.

Jock, also known as Mark Simpson, is a Scottish artist and designer who has become a big name in comics on both sides of the Atlantic. In the United States, he is usually associated with DC and Vertigo productions, e.g. loser (and Andy Diggle), fraud and Hell Detective (both with McCurry); as well as numerous Batman works, mostly with writers Scott Snyder. His most recent DC project is a 2022 Black Label project Batman: The Dark Knight Part Oneas a writer/artist.
Jock’s earliest comic work as a professional artist was published in the British Weekly Comics Anthology in 1999 AD 2000best known for its flagship character, Judge Advocate. The artist has since built an extensive career in comics and film. In the field of film, he has produced posters and concept art for: sons of men (2006), Ex Machina (2014), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017).
