‘Worst Cartoons Ever!’ returns July 23 with animation historian Jerry Beck presenting a lineup of unintentionally funny films; the July 25 Saturday morning cartoons panel will examine how the programming block shaped careers, studios and the animation industry.

ASIFA-Hollywood will return to Comic-Con International in San Diego July 22-26, in-person on the convention floor at Booth 1532 and hosting panels on animation history and Saturday morning cartoons.

At the booth, ASIFA-Hollywood will provide information on memberships, upcoming screenings, animation festivals, guest autographs and the annual Annie Awards celebration. The organization said attendees should follow @ASIFAHollywood on social media for updates and schedule changes.

“Worst Cartoons Ever!” will make its 21st annual Comic-Con appearance Thursday, July 23, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Room 5AB. Animation historian Jerry Beck of CartoonResearch.com and MeTV Toons will again join ASIFA-Hollywood to present a selection of “terribly written, ugly and unintentionally funny animated films.” The lineup includes con favorites Mighty Mr. Titan, a physical-fitness superhero in a form-fitting costume that is a little too tight for comfort, and Chris Welkin, the worst sci-fi comic strip adaptation ever.

“Why Do Saturday Morning Cartoons Still Matter?” will take place Saturday, July 25, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Room 9. Presented by ASIFA-Hollywood and Saturday Morning Cartoons United, the panel will examine how Saturday morning cartoons built careers, launched studios and helped shape the animation industry before streaming and endless scrolling. Caroline Buermann, founder of Saturday Morning Cartoons United, and Eric Bauza of Looney Tunes will moderate.

Panelists for “Why Do Saturday Morning Cartoons Still Matter?” include Craig Bartlett, Chris Battle, Jerry Beck, Bettina Bush, Matt Danner and Candi Milo. Their credits include Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, Hey Arnold!, Teen Titans, Samurai Jack, Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony, Muppet Babies, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw, Tiny Toon Adventures and Dexter’s Laboratory.

ASIFA-Hollywood also announced industry guests scheduled to appear at the booth to chat and sign autographs during the convention: Thursday guests include Emily Brundige, Rey Mysterio and the Calavera Brothers; Friday guests include Ruth Clampett, the Calavera Brothers and Jorge Gutierrez.

Saturday’s booth schedule is pending and is expected to include Ruth Clampett, Samantha Newark, Bettina Bush, Eric Bauza, Frank Todaro and Cheryl Chase. Sunday guests include the Ambriz Brothers, Frankelda Puppets and Candi Milo.

ASIFA-Hollywood is dedicated to promoting the art of animation and celebrating the people who create it. The organization supports animation activities and preservation efforts through initiatives including the Animation Archive, Animation Aid Foundation, Animation Educators Forum, animated film preservation, opene annual Annie Awards.
