After the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in the United States, Games Done Quick is rallying some speedrunners to raise funds to help.
In late September, Hurricane Helene hit the East Coast of the United States, wreaking havoc particularly in the southern Appalachian Mountains. The National Weather Service explained, “Severe and unprecedented flooding occurred across a wide area, killing hundreds and causing dozens of deaths.” Billions of dollars in property damage. The death toll currently stands at 227, according to the Associated Press, and the full extent of the incident remains unclear. As a result, the twice-annual speedrunning event “Games Done” raises funds for charities such as Doctors Without Borders. Quick” is hosting a “Disaster Relief Done Quick” event to assist with disaster relief efforts.

“From October 11th to 13th, we will be hosting a disaster relief event to help support those affected by Hurricane Helene,” the official Games Done Quick Twitter account explained. “Donations during the event will be donated to Direct Relief Organize.” If you’re a speedrunner, you currently have until 11:59 PM ET today, October 6, to submit a run, but there are some limitations given the rush to organize this event, like everything Both are console-only, while randomizers are required – no stream tracing is allowed.
