Prepare to go ludicrous speed once again. Amazon MGM Studios has officially kicked off the marketing campaign for Spaceballs: The New One, unveiling the film’s first teaser poster, confirming a major San Diego Comic-Con Hall H presentation, and releasing an official synopsis that promises to lovingly parody modern Hollywood’s obsession with sequels, reboots and legacy franchises

    uploaded image

Set to arrive exclusively in theaters on April 23rd, 2027, the long-awaited sequel reunites legendary filmmaker Mel Brooks with several returning cast members from the original 1987 comedy while introducing a new generation of heroes and plenty of opportunities to poke fun at today’s blockbuster landscape

    Spaceballs Invades San Diego Comic-Con

Fans attending San Diego Comic-Con won’t have to wait long for more information. The cast and filmmakers behind Spaceballs: The New One will appear during a Hall H presentation on Friday, July 24 at 4:00 PM, where attendees can likely expect exclusive footage, behind-the-scenes stories and perhaps even a few surprise appearances

Keeping with the franchise’s signature humor, the official announcement jokingly reminds convention attendees to “keep your Schwartz inside the convention center at all times.”

The Official Synopsis Is Peak Spaceballs

The newly released synopsis wastes no time reminding audiences exactly what kind of movie this will be. Opening with the hilarious line “Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned!” — a clear parody of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker— the sequel promises to lampoon virtually every modern Hollywood trend imaginable

Forty years after the events of the original Spaceballs, the galaxy faces a new threat determined to revive every nostalgic idea it can find. With Lone Starr missing, Queen Vespa ruling the kingdom, and the Schwartz stretched thinner than “a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically,” the fate of the galaxy falls to Vespa’s impulsive son, Prince Starburst, alongside a mysterious royal advisor named Destiny

The synopsis makes it abundantly clear that no franchise is safe from parody, with jokes aimed at legacy sequels, endless reboots, streaming strategies and Hollywood’s continued fascination with nostalgia-driven storytelling

    Returning Legends and New Faces

The sequel features an impressive blend of returning favorites and new additions. Confirmed cast members include Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, George Wyner and Mel Brooks, alongside newcomers Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Anthony Carrigan

Josh Gad also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, with Josh Greenbaum directing. The film is produced by Brian Grazer, Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, Josh Greenbaum, Kevin Salter and Jeb Brody

A Sequel Four Decades in the Making

Released in 1987, Spaceballs became one of Mel Brooks’ most beloved comedies thanks to its relentless parody of Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, and countless other science fiction classics. Over the decades the film has developed a devoted cult following, with fans repeatedly hoping the long-rumored sequel would eventually become reality

With principal cast members returning and Brooks once again involved, Spaceballs: The New One appears poised to celebrate everything fans loved about the original while updating its satire for today’s entertainment landscape

Spaceballs: The New One blasts into theaters on April 23, 2027

Will the sequel live up to the original’s cult-classic status? Let us know what you think of the first teaser poster and official synopsis in the comments below!
