Eiichiro Oda has spent nearly three decades turning weekly serialization into an endurance test of narrative wizardry, keeping millions hooked through staggering lore drops and high-stakes cliffhangers. The publication timeline dictates that Chapter 1198 hits shelves on November 9, 2026 (November 8 on international digital platforms). However, after the X confirmations from @pewpiece and official line-ups on MANGA Plus and VIZ Media, a customary author break will immediately follow Chapter 1198. Hence, Chapter 1199’s arrival will be delayed from the previously set date. Potentially, it could come out on November 22, 2026.
Chapter 1197 previously arrived on November 1, 2026, and with Chapter 1198 landing on November 8, this planned hiatus means readers will have to wait two weeks to see the aftermath of the latest Elbaph developments in Chapter 1199. Earlier, it went on a break after Chapter 1191 till Chapter 1192 arrived in September. Oda has been publishing three chapters per month before going on a break after each one.
This break comes amidst an intense, rapid-fire sequence of high-stakes developments on Elbaph. Chapter 1198 blew the doors off the final saga, diving into Luffy’s true Zoan nature as he accesses a primal, ape-like state while Oda simultaneously sets up the long-awaited return of Monkey D. Dragon. With the narrative momentum reaching a fever pitch, readers will have to wait two weeks to witness the fallout of these game-changing reveals when Chapter 1199 lands.
Oda’s Deteriorating Health Could Cause Further Publication Delays

Whenever a high-profile manga hiatus drops, the community naturally holds its breath, mindful of Eiichiro Oda’s grueling historic workload. Maintaining a weekly serialization schedule for over twenty-seven years requires an extraordinary level of physical and mental stamina.
Creators behind mega-hits like Jujutsu Kaisen or My Hero Academia have struggled under the brutal weekly grind, while Oda has pushed through decades of relentless deadlines, previously managing issues like severe astigmatism and high blood pressure. Hunter x Hunter went on a hiatus for 18 months due to the health issues of its creator. The extremely demanding schedule of manga creators is nothing new, but it’s concerning to see the strain it puts on these creators.
Over the years, the publication cadence has gradually shifted. This slowdown isn’t limited to the printed page, as the One Piece anime has similarly undergone a monumental structural pivot, abandoning its continuous 25-year year-round broadcast format in favor of a seasonal cour-release model. Toei Animation slashed the annual output to roughly 26 episodes split across compact seasonal blocks to prevent the anime from encroaching on the manga’s story buffer while Oda paces himself.
Crucially, this shift eliminates agonizing recap padding, giving animators movie-quality production schedules to handle the high-octane spectacle of Elbaph without running out of manga material. After a three-month seasonal hiatus following the Egghead arc, the anime returned to launch Elbaph on April 5, 2026, establishing a new era of late-night, elevated production standards.
Meanwhile, Shueisha giving Oda the room to publish at a more sustainable pace ultimately protects both the author and the craft. Oda continues to steer the final saga toward its ultimate conclusion, and while the physical toll of drawing weekly chapters is undeniable, this calculated rhythm is what ensures the King of the Pirates reaches the finish line.
