Shakira’s FIFA anthem makes streaming records
GLOBAL superstar Shakira has reached a milestone with “Dai Dai,” her FIFA World Cup 2026 anthem featuring Burna Boy. It has reached No. 1 on the Spotify Global chart while Shakira herself has climbed to No. 6 among the world’s most-streamed artists on Spotify. She has also become the first artist in Spotify history to reach No. 1 with songs in both English and Spanish — another landmark achievement.
GMA launches Young Achievers Seriespodcast
GMA NETWORK, through its website GMA Lifestyle, has launched the Young Achievers Series podcast, a platform dedicated to the ideas, stories, and journeys of the Filipino youth. It aims to inspire, empower, and amplify their voices and will feature remarkable individuals and standout personalities from various fields, including the arts, fashion, design, business, sports, and more. The first guest was social media dance sensation and content creator Niana Guerrero. Upcoming guests on the Young Achievers Seriespodcast will be two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, “Lumpia Queen” Abi Marquez, and performer Missy Elizalde.
Steve Lacy releases new album
STEVE LACY has dropped his third album Oh yeah? via RCA Records. The album features a long-awaited collaboration, “is it cool? (feat. SZA),” as well as the lead single “the feeling,” which served as a reintroduction to Mr. Lacy’s ability to blend modern pop, alt, and R&B. It is his most ambitious and personal music to date, made for “guitar kids who love synths and synth kids who love guitars,” he said in a statement. It also features performances from the likes of Erykah Badu and Cecile Believe. Mr. Lacy has already had two songs in the Spotify Billions Club as well as two Grammy Awards.
Tunerto screen at Ayala Malls
THIS month, Ayala Malls Cinemas is bringing the crime thrillerTuner to Philippine screens. Starting July 22, it will be shown exclusively at the cinemas in Glorietta, Greenbelt, Trinoma, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Fairview Terraces, Central Bloc (Cebu), Centrio (Cagayan de Oro), and Capitol Central (Bacolod). Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Daniel Roher in his narrative feature debut, Tuner follows gifted piano tuner Niki (played by Leo Woodall), whose extraordinary sense of hearing catches the attention of dangerous criminals who exploit his unique talent to crack safes. The film also stars Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman, Havana Rose Liu, Tovah Feldshuh, Lior Raz, and Jean Reno.
BTS drops music video on Spotify
ON July 17, K-pop boy group BTS unveiled the music video for “NORMAL,” from their fifth studio album ARIRANG, now available to watch on Spotify. The music video is set in the aftermath of a celebration, moving between scenes from the previous night’s festivities and the stillness of the following morning, capturing the quiet moments that exist beyond the spotlight.
Manila Sound icons reunite for concert
SOME of the biggest names behind the iconic Manila Sound era are coming together for Sumayaw Sumunod: The Manila Sound Reunion Concert, happening on Aug. 1 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Headlined by OPM legends including Lolita Carbon (Asin), Sampaguita, Gino Padilla, Joey Abando (The Boyfriends), VST & Co.’s Monet Gaskell and Male Rigor, among others, the one-night concert revisits the disco, pop, folk, and rock hits that defined a generation. From “Sumayaw, Sumunod” to “Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko,” and “Nosi Ba Lasi,” the show promises a nostalgic celebration of timeless Filipino music.
Psycho Killer to premiere on Disney+
A NEW horror experience is coming to Disney+ this August through 20th Century Studios’ Psycho Killer. The film premieres on Aug. 5, a suspense-filled thriller from the producers of Barbarian, a producer of Weapons, and the screenwriter of Se7en. It stars Georgina Campbell and James Preston Rogers and follows a Kansas highway patrol officer whose search for her husband’s murderer leads her to the path of a sadistic serial killer with a horrifying agenda. Directed by Gavin Polone and written by Andrew Kevin Walker, the film also stars Grace Dove, Logan Miller, and Malcolm McDowell.
Angeline Quinto celebrates 15 years with concert
ANGELINE QUINTO is celebrating her 15th anniversary with a concert, AQuinse, that will take place on Aug. 22 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Bais Film Festival to mount 4th edition
THE Bais Film Festival of Short Films is holding its 4th edition this December, a collaborative effort between the City Government of Bais and the Office of Culture and the Arts. The Voice Kids announces new hosts
