The new Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has received its first review score.
In this week’s issue of Famitsu, the Japanese magazine shares its verdict. Between four reviewers, the game earned scores of 9, 9, 9, and 10. That means it earned a total of 37 points out of 40.
Famitsu had praise for the smooth camera, improved controls and gameplay flow, and the graphics. At the same time, the review points out that it’s relatively simple compared to many modern titles. There are also times when players may find themselves a bit unsure of what to do.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time actually has some pretty notable history with Famitsu. Back when the original N64 version was released, it earned a perfect score. This was the first game in Famitsu to accomplish that feat.
More scores are expected to drop at some point tomorrow – we’ll share a roundup as reviews go live.
Below is an overview of the game:
Join Link as he sets out on a heroic journey that spans the land of Hyrule and unfolds across two different eras. Experience this timeless tale and its vibrant characters brought to life through completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, reworked camera and movement controls, and more.
Throughout the quest, learn tunes that will play an important role in Link’s journey and can be used to open new paths forward, turn day to night, and more. Play (or simply hum) one of Link’s learned ocarina melodies within range of the Nintendo Switch 2 console’s built-in microphone, and he will perform the song in the game. The game will also respond to instruments.
Additionally, players can track their adventure, create and share ocarina melodies, take a daily quiz with over 2,000 total questions and more in Zelda Notes, a game-specific service available
Plus, new compatible amiibo figures of Young Link and Young Zelda will launch in 2027, and can be used to unlock special in-game masks that evoke a retro graphical style. Other amiibo figures from The Legend of Zelda series can also be used to receive useful items.
Earlier today, we found out about a pretty notable change to the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake that will please a number of longtime fans. We also recently heard from Nintendo about why it gave the game the remake treatment.
