‘Tis the season to sleuth
There’s something about a cozy small town, a little holiday magic and a murder mystery that makes for a seriously good binge-watch. And if you’re in the mood for a series that combines all three, Netflix’s latest chart-topper might be worth adding to your queue. Currently sitting at number six on the streamer’s Top 10 TV Shows list, Mistletoe Murders is bringing a little murder and mayhem to the most wonderful time of the year.
The setup is pretty intriguing: Emily Lane (Sarah Drew) is a quick-witted woman with a mysterious past who moves to Fletcher’s Grove, a year-round Christmas-themed town in Upstate New York. Hoping for a fresh start, she opens a holiday shop called Under the Mistletoe and tries to keep a low profile. But when a string of murders shakes up the seemingly picture-perfect community, Emily can’t help but put her investigative skills to work.
Along the way, she repeatedly crosses paths with Detective Sam Wilner (Peter Mooney). As the two team up to solve cases, we get a fun little twist: romantic tension starts brewing. However, Emily’s involvement in the investigations could expose the secrets she’s worked so hard to leave behind.
And it looks like viewers are enjoying the mix of mystery and romance, which first debuted on Hallmark. On Rotten Tomatoes, season one currently holds a 90% Tomatometer score. One review called it a “cozy, intriguing, and must-watch series.”
Season two also earned some positive feedback. One person proclaimed, “Even better than season 1 and that’s saying something, seeing as I gave that 5 stars as well.” Another shared, “This show is a hard recommend! I found it more intriguing than other more fluffy Christmas romances and more gratifying. It provides just the right amount of Christmas fun, beauty, romance and excitement to make you want more.”
If you’re into small-town mysteries with a festive backdrop and a slow-burn romance, this one might be right up your alley.
