IndiGo has signed an agreement with Skywise, a digital services company wholly owned by Airbus, to deploy the A320 Virtual Procedure Trainer (VPT). IndiGo is the first airline to adopt the VPT abnormal and emergency procedure package, and the first VPT customer in South Asia.
The VPT is cloud-based software using Virtual Reality (VR) and flat-screen devices, designed to bridge ground-school theory and Full Flight Simulator (FFS) sessions. Pilots can learn and practise cockpit procedures, flow patterns and normal checklists before entering the simulator.
IndiGo has used Airbus’ MATe Suite (Mobile Airbus Training experience), now part of Skywise, since 2021 across its 6,300 flight crew members. The airline plans to train up to 1,000 pilots annually.
“IndiGo is committed to adopting advanced technologies that support effective and scalable pilot training. The Skywise A320 Virtual Procedure Trainer strengthens our end-to-end digital training ecosystem and enables us to meet the evolving expectations of a new generation of pilots by providing an accessible, precise and self-paced learning experience. What we have achieved here is to provide the latest technology to further enhance our pilots training standards. We are proud to be a global first by adopting the VPT abnormal and emergency procedure package. This partnership will support IndiGo’s continued growth while ensuring consistent, Airbus OEM-aligned training standards and creating a first-of-its-kind digital training experience for the next generation of pilots in India,” stated Capt. Ashim Mittra, FRAeS, Senior Vice President – Flight Operations, IndiGo.
Airbus is exhibiting at the European A, 3–5 November at the Estoril Congress Centre in Cascais, Portugal, at Booth 304. Stop by to learn more
