It’s been a great year for thriller series on Netflix. Month after month, the streaming service has delivered must-watch hits in the genre, whether it’s the mystery thrillerI Will Find You,sci-fi thriller Below,or political thrillerThe Diplomat. Just under the buzzer, Netflix has one more exciting new series to release before the end of the year, and it’s another political thriller.

While there’s still some waiting to do before The Diplomat season 5 arrives on our watch lists, we won’t be without great, binge-worthy stories for long. On Nov. 4, Netflix seemingly surprise announced the release date for Trinity, the new original series starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden that’s coming right at the top of December.

Trinity thriller series coming to Netflix in December 2026

The eight-episode thriller series Trinitypremieres on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2026 on Netflix. It’s a rare Tuesday release for the streaming service, which usually releases new scripted episodic content on Thursdays. The series contains eight episodes, and in typical Netflix fashion, the full season will be released at once. We’ll need something thrilling to watch to start the week after Thanksgiving.

In addition to revealing the release date, the streamer dropped the trailer. Watch below:

If you’re not immediately sold on Trinity simply based on its genre as a political conspiracy thriller, leading stars, and gripping trailer, here’s a little bit more about the show thanks to the synopsis shared by Netflix: “A heroic female naval officer becomes involved with the outwardly charismatic secretary of defense, only to discover he may be at the heart of a dangerous conspiracy.”

Trinitycomes from creator and writer Jed Mercurio, who previously wrote and directed films like Frankenstein and Lady Chatterley’s Lover and created television series like The Grimleys, Bodies, Line of Duty, Critical, and Bodyguard. Mercurio previously collaborated with Richard Madden on the titles Lady Chatterley’s Lover and the hit Netflix series Bodyguard.

Beyond Madden and Mbatha-Raw leading the series, the main cast of Trinityalso features Marcia Gay Harden and JD Pardo with supporting and recurring roles from James Remar (as the President of the United States), Robert Wisdom, Bruce Greenwood, Kirk Acevedo, Ben Cotton, Jason Ralph, and Mark O’Brien. These familiar faces more than ensure a must-watch series.

Even though it seems like Trinitycame out of nowhere, the series was announced to be in the works last year and began production in July 2025, ultimately wrapping that November. For the most part, the series has flown under the radar, which does make its sudden release date announcement feel like it has come out of nowhere with a drop on a random Tuesday in December.

Netflix might have taken us by surprise with Trinity’s release date, but given the stature of its cast and creator, millions of thriller fans will certainly be locked on it what’s sure to be a victory lap for the streamer before the year comes to a close. Make sure to mark your calendars and set your reminders for your next political thriller obsession while you wait for The Diplomatseason 5.
