Key Points
- Zee Entertainment’s Q2 FY27 net profit dropped 40.4% to Rs 45.6 crore.
- Total revenue increased by 12.6% to Rs 2,247.2 crore, driven by digital business.
- Higher advertising and promotional spends, particularly for FIFA 2026, impacted profit.
- Subscription revenue grew by 30.24% due to FIFA 2026 and a strong content pipeline.
New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd on Friday reported a 40.4 per cent year-on-year decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 45.6 crore for the September quarter of FY27, on account of higher advertising and promotional spends and impact on advertising revenue.
It had posted a net profit of Rs 76.5 crore in the July-September period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing.
However, its total income jumped 12.6 per cent to Rs 2.247.2 crore in Q2 FY27, from Rs 1,995.6 crore in the corresponding quarter of the preceding fiscal.
The revenue growth was “driven by Digital Business”, said Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd in its earnings presentation.
ZEEL’s total expenses stood at Rs 2,184.1 crore, up 16.15 per cent YoY, compared to Rs 1,880.3 crore in the second quarter of FY26.
Total expenses increased following “Higher A&P spends due to FIFA 2026 and investments in other initiatives”, the company said.
In the September quarter, ZEEL’s revenue from Advertising was marginally down by 0.4 per cent to Rs 803 crore in Q2 FY27 as against Rs 806.3 crore of the corresponding quarter a year ago.
However, its subscription revenue was up 30.24 per cent to Rs 1,332.4 crore in the September quarter of FY27.
The increase was led by “FIFA 2026 and a strong content pipeline drove higher digital ARPU and growth in subscribers”, it said.
ZEEL has an 8-year media rights partnership with FIFA spanning from 2026 through 2034, where it holds the exclusive television and digital broadcasting rights in India and the subcontinent for 39 major FIFA events, including the recently completed FIFA World Cup.
Its revenue from the “Other Sales & Services” segment was also down 36.24 per cent to Rs 89.2 crore due to “lower number of movies produced and released” during the quarter.
This segment primarily includes revenue from content syndication and the studios business, along with other content-related commercial activities that are not classified as advertising or subscription revenue.
Shares of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd on Friday settled at Rs 66.47, down 5.65 per cent, on the BSE.
