The platform is still considering fields for identifying human-authored content and listing creative tools, but says it has not settled on a policy.
VRChat has published a support post outlining the results of a user survey about artificial intelligence on the platform. The company said 95 percent of respondents wanted some form of label for AI use, but it will not introduce AI-related tags for now. VRChat is an app for creating and sharing virtual worlds for social interaction.
The post says the company is still weighing a “Human-authored” label and a “Tools used” field, without taking a definitive position. It also ruled out adding a tag for AI-generated content or a way to filter such content out of search results.
“While we think some creators would honestly label their content, we think others would try to pass off generative or assisted work as completely authored by hand,”
“Likewise, we could see this creating ‘sleuthing’ behavior, where folks would attempt to sniff out ‘AI’ content or might harass other creators, even if they are genuinely not using any AI tools in their workflow.”
The post emphasizes changes the company says have “alignment across the community,” including accurate thumbnails, better discovery tools and “quality as a core metric,” rather than adopting a policy that could be unpopular with a particular group.
VRChat has been used in filmmaking and to create safe communities for transgender people. The platform has also faced accusations of hosting toxic and predatory behavior.
