Roblox Plunges 19% as Daily Users Shrink and GTA VI Clouds Holiday Outlook; Unity Drops 4%, Take-Two Dips

Roblox beat Wall Street on bookings and losses yet still triggered one of its worst single-day selloffs in years, and the reason behind that gap tells investors everything they need to know about where the platform stands heading into the…

A third-quarter beat on bookings and losses isn’t protecting one of gaming’s biggest platforms from a steep selloff. Roblox (NYSE:RBLX | RBLX Price Prediction) stock trades at $42.67 in early action, down 19%. The stock closed the prior session at $52.46. This decline leaves Roblox stock down 46% year to date (YTD).

On October 29, Roblox reported that its Q3 2026 bookings fell 12% year over year (YoY) to $1.7 billion, exceeding the $1.62 billion Wall Street analysts expected. Revenue at Roblox rose 16% to $1.572 billion, and its $0.32 loss per share beat the $0.43 Wall Street analysts forecast. Investors focused instead on daily active users (DAUs), which fell 9% YoY to 138 million versus the 145.8 million Wall Street analysts expected.

Roblox Guidance Bakes In a Grand Theft Auto Headwind

Roblox guided Q4 2026 bookings to $1.89 billion to $2 billion, a 10% to 15% YoY decline that sits below the $2.02 billion Wall Street analysts expected. CFO Naveen Chopra said the outlook builds in “a modest headwind from the release of GTA in the quarter,” meaning the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Profit guidance from Roblox also turned negative, with adjusted EBITDA of negative $70 million to negative $10 million expected after $138 million of positive adjusted EBITDA in Q3. On free cash flow, Roblox expects negative $190 million to negative $105 million as AI infrastructure costs and marketing aimed at adults rise. Planned Q4 capital spending at Roblox is $380 million, including approximately $140 million shifted from Q3.

Roblox Payers Shrink as Adult Users Climb

Roblox averaged 30 million monthly unique payers in Q3, down 16% YoY, while bookings per payer rose 5%. Chopra said monetization pressures continued. He pointed to younger U.S. users as a particular concern and stated, “We don’t assume short-term improvement in monetization.” Bloomberg reported that child-safety measures such as age verification weighed on growth earlier this year amid lawsuits from state attorneys general.

Daily users at Roblox rose 12% from Q2, and hours climbed 17% to nearly 34 billion. CEO David Baszucki noted U.S. users aged 18 and over grew 18% YoY and monetize 50% or more above the under-18 cohort. Baszucki also cited the highest seasonally adjusted platform retention since 2021. Freedom Capital Markets analyst Nick McKay warned that optimism over the impact of hit game Steal an Egg could be overdone.

Roblox’s Cash Cushion Funds Its AI Push

Roblox ended September with $6.24 billion in cash and investments against $1.01 billion in long-term debt. The company also bought back $580 million of stock in the first nine months of 2026. That buffer gives Roblox room to keep spending on AI tools and adult marketing through a cash-burning quarter.

On October 30, Roth MKM cut its Roblox price target to $54 from $60. BTIG held a Sell rating with a $42 target ahead of the report.

What the Peer Group Says About Roblox

Unity Software (NYSE:U) stock is at $37.84, down 4%. The game-engine maker’s software powers many titles, and Unity is decline alongside Roblox in the gaming selloff.

Grand Theft Auto VI is a far bigger deal. It is a major event for Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ:TTWO), which reaffirmed its fiscal-year net bookings outlook of $8 billion to $8.2 billion on August 7 and pointed to the game’s launch. Take-Two stock is at $191.87, down 0.8%. Like Roblox, Take-Two stock is down sharply this year, off 25% YTD. The company’s next report, expected November 9, should show its holiday-quarter guidance.

Tech stocks broadly are under pressure after the NASDAQ Composite closed more than 1% lower on October 29 on AI spending worries. That background adds to the selling in Roblox and its peers.

How Roblox’s Platform Differs From Unity and Take-Two

Roblox runs a user-generated platform where creators build experiences and players spend Robux, so its results hinge on daily engagement and paying users.

Unity sells development tools and ad technology to professional studios, earning money across mobile, PC and console wherever a hit lands, while Take-Two is a title-driven publisher whose Rockstar Games, 2K and Zynga labels depend on blockbuster releases and in-game spending.

What Roblox’s Holiday Quarter Has to Prove

Roblox now faces the question of whether holiday bookings, much of which arrive in the last week of December, land within its guidance as Grand Theft Auto VI competes for players’ time. Watch for daily user trends, payer counts and the broader U.S. release of Roblox Build in December.

The strongest retention since 2021, a growing adult audience and a balance sheet that can fund AI work all favor the bulls. Shrinking payers, a cash-burning Q4 and an untested competitive threat support the bear case for Roblox. Investors may want to hold off until the Roblox holiday bookings picture resolves.
