Jay-Z Hugs Daughter Blue Ivy, 14, After Piano Performance During His Los Angeles Concert

Jay-Zhad a very special guest during his latest show in Los Angeles — his daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

During Jay-Z’s concert at SoFi Stadium on Friday, October 23, he enlisted Blue Ivy, 14, for a brief piano performance, per footage shared by Variety. As Blue Ivy played the final note, Jay-Z, 56, pretended to bow down to her musical prowess. The father-daughter duo subsequently embraced in a sweet hug before Blue Ivy walked off stage.

Blue Ivy is the eldest daughter of Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé. (The couple, who have been married since 2008, also share 9-year-old twins Sir and Rumi.)

As Blue Ivy has grown up, she’s followed in her parents’ musical footsteps. Jay-Z even brought the teen on stage at his July concert at Yankee Stadium in New York City, where she tickled the ivories for a rendition of “Feelin’ It.”

“Make some noise for the legendary Blue Ivy Carter,” Jay-Z shouted to the crowd at the time.

Jay-Z’s NYC concert kicked off his JAŸ-Z30 Tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his album Reasonable Doubt.

“I think the statement piece in a Jay-Z show is Jay-Z,” designer Willo Perron told Wired about planning the tour setup. “This is more about storytelling than it is about stage design.”

Perron explained that Jay-Z didn’t want an “ostentatious” setup, instead wanting to recreate the stages where he performed early in his career.

“Jay-Z sent me a video of an older concert, and I think the way that the stage was located, he was like, ‘Oh, it’s cool. People look like they’re onstage,’” Perron recalled. “I was like, ‘We should maybe just put people on stage.’”

The show also featured prerecorded footage of Blue Ivy cutting Jay-Z’s locs. (The rapper initially grew out his curls to help teach his children to embrace their natural hair.)

“Everyone wants to know the details of Jay’s hair transformation,” Beyoncé, 45, said in a June video forher Cécred haircare brand. “Now, I wasn’t all the way convinced that he would be able to comb out his locs, considering he had such thick, long wicks. I thought it was always beautiful that the real reason Jay grew out his hair was to show Blue that her hair was like his hair.”

According to the Destiny’s Child singer, Blue Ivy lacked confidence in her hair when she was 5 years old.

“She wasn’t feeling very confident about her hair at that time. When she told her father that, it inspired Jay to grow out his hair,” Beyoncé explained. “We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous curls.”

Jay-Z concludes his JAŸ-Z30 Tourwith another concert at SoFi Stadium on Saturday, October 24. He will reportedly headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show in February, also at SoFi Stadium.
