The Sacramento Kings rank sixth in Nielsen’s NBA Fandom Index, reflecting fan interest that endured through a 22-60 season & extended turmoil.
The Sacramento Kings may be coming off a 22-60 season, but their fans remain among the NBA’s most engaged. Sacramento ranked sixth in Nielsen’s inaugural NBA Fandom Index, which measured the league’s most avid fan bases ahead of the new season.
The Sacramento/Stockton/Modesto market earned an average index score of 168, placing the Kings behind Oklahoma City, Cleveland, Memphis, Indiana and Boston.
The index draws on seven measures: social media following, apparel purchases, television viewership, streaming, radio listening, interest level, and game attendance.
That ranking reflects a fan base that continues to follow the team despite a difficult stretch.
The Sacramento Kings have reached the postseason just once since the 2006-07 season, and last year’s 22-60 finish offered little on-court momentum. Still, the Nielsen result suggests interest in Sacramento basketball remains strong as a new season approaches.
The league overall also saw a notable audience increase during the 2025-26 regular season.
Nielsen reported that average viewership across ABC/ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, NBC/Peacock and NBA TV reached its highest level in 13 years, up 35% from the previous season.
For Sacramento Kings fans, the sixth-place ranking is a sign that support has survived losing seasons and a long wait for sustained success.
The new campaign gives Sacramento another chance to turn that loyalty into something more exciting on the court. Fans will be watching to see whether the team can build momentum and give one of the league’s most devoted fan bases a season to celebrate.
