Mo. (KY3) – Missouri Fan Fest is filling the halls of the Springfield Expo Center in downtown Springfield, showcasing all things pop culture, anime, and video games
Celebrity guests like David Arquette, Catherine Bach, Maile Flanagan, and many more who voiced or played some of our favorite characters are featured in the fest’s lineup.
However, the people who have come out so far say it’s about the community and connections they can make.
“You can show up in regular clothes, you can show up in your costume, you can show up even in just a closet cosplay. It’s just such a good community. There’s not a lot of hatred. Everyone’s so accepting. It’s just wonderful,” said Jillian, who cosplayed as Winry from Fullmetal Alchemist. “If you have social anxiety, you don’t need to when you’re here. Everyone here is a nerd. Everyone here is here to have fun.”
Many are here to cosplay as their favorite characters, and a majority of the costumes are handmade.
“I love making these, showing them off. I love seeing other people’s costumes,” said Calvin, who cosplayed as Al from Fullmetal Alchemist; he created his own costume. “This is all EVA foam, and I even have some kneeling pads from Harbor Freight in my boots to make me taller.”
Missouri Fan Fest runs Sunday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Click here for the full day’s schedule and to purchase tickets online to avoid lines.
