A health emergency involving actor Rajesh Sharma has sparked serious concerns across film industry. The veteran actor is currently undergoing treatment at private hospital in Kolkata after his condition reportedly turned critical following suspected insect bite during shooting of Prabhas-starrer ‘Fauji’ at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City

As news of the incident spread, All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) stepped in demanding detailed investigation into what happened on film set

    AICWA seeks high-level investigation

    Date: 08 July 2026

AICWA Demands High-Level Investigation into the Sudden Illness of Actor Rajesh Sharma During the Shooting of Prabhas’ Upcoming Film Fauji at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad

    — All Indian Cine Workers Association (@aicwaofficial) July 8, 2026

AICWA has written to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, requesting an immediate and impartial investigation into the incident

In a statement shared on X, the association said the matter should not be treated as a routine medical emergency. Instead, it called for a transparent inquiry to determine whether proper workplace safety and emergency medical procedures were followed at the shooting location

The statement, issued by AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, said the investigation should establish the exact reason behind Sharma’s sudden medical emergency and identify whether any individual or organisation failed in its responsibilities

According to the association, the probe should examine whether workplace hygiene standards, health protocols and emergency response systems were in place at the ‘Fauji’ set inside Ramoji Film City

    Questions raised over emergency response

Along with demanding an inquiry, AICWA also raised several questions about how the situation was handled after Sharma reportedly fell ill

The association asked why the actor was not immediately shifted to a leading hospital in Hyderabad if his condition had become serious during the shoot

It also questioned whether qualified emergency medical staff and facilities were available on the set. Another major concern raised was whether mandatory health and workplace safety guidelines were properly followed by the production team

AICWA further sought clarity on the exact sequence of events that led to Sharma’s health deteriorating so rapidly

In its statement, the association said the investigation should determine whether there was any negligence on the part of the producer, production house or any other authority connected to the film

‘No one should be above accountability’

The cine workers’ body made it clear that the size or budget of a film should not influence the investigation

It said that if the inquiry uncovers any negligence or failure to follow safety procedures, strict legal action must be taken against everyone found responsible

According to AICWA, no production house or individual should receive special treatment if safety lapses are established during the investigation

The association also urged the makers of ‘Fauji’ to bear the complete cost of Sharma’s medical treatment and ensure that he receives the best possible healthcare until he fully recovers

    How the incident reportedly unfolded

The first detailed account of the incident came through an official statement shared by actor Sudipa Chatterjee on social media on July 8

According to the statement, Sharma had completed shooting for ‘Fauji’ at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City when the incident took place

After pack-up, he was reportedly interacting with local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation. During that time, he is believed to have been bitten by what is suspected to be a bug or a poisonous spider

At first, the bite did not appear dangerous. Since there were no immediate signs of a serious medical problem, Sharma reportedly did not seek treatment right away

    Symptoms worsened within hours

Several hours later, the situation reportedly changed dramatically

Around six hours after suspected bite, Sharma began experiencing severe pain in his right leg

Despite these symptoms, he boarded a flight from Hyderabad to Kolkata

According to the statement, his health deteriorated further during the journey. He developed a high fever, became increasingly restless and his overall condition continued to worsen while travelling

The next day, he was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria, Kolkata, where doctors immediately began treatment

    Actor remains in critical condition

Sudipa Chatterjee’s statement said Sharma continues to remain in a critical condition and is not yet out of danger

Doctors are closely monitoring his health while carrying out further medical investigations

The actor is reportedly suffering from persistent high fever, breathlessness and a rapidly spreading infection in his right leg

The infection is said to have spread from his toes to his knee. Large blisters have also developed over the affected area, making his condition more serious

Medical teams at the hospital are continuing treatment as they work to determine the exact cause and extent of the infection
