Patreon, the paid membership platform for creators, on Tuesday announced the release of new features designed to help creators monetize their free followers and gain new revenue streams. This includes the ability to sell individual posts, gifting features for creators to gift limited-time subscriptions to fans, and promotional tools to share clips on social media.
These new features reflect Patreon’s continued efforts to expand beyond its role as a monetization platform. Last year, Patreon launched a free membership option, allowing fans to follow their favorite influencers without committing to a monthly subscription. The company revealed in a blog post today that the move has already resulted in more than 30 million sign-ups.
Patreon is now introducing one-time purchases for content such as posts and collections, allowing followers to access paywalled content without paying membership fees. The company previously allowed one-time purchases of a variety of digital products, including videos, podcast episodes, and images.

The platform is also testing a gifting service that allows creators to offer limited-time subscriptions to their fans. For example, an influencer can send someone a one-month membership as a gift for becoming a loyal follower.
Additionally, Patreon is improving communication by opening up a community chat section to both free and paid members and introducing features such as a countdown clock and live chat feature to promote new and upcoming content. Also coming is a new tool that automatically generates audio and video clips for Patreon posts for use as teasers on social media platforms.
All of these new features will be available in the coming months.
