Are you looking forward to seeing Hollow Knight: Silk Song live at Gamescom opening night? You absolutely shouldn’t do this, as long as Jeff Keighley isn’t lying to us.
Every time a game demo is posted, there’s one game you’ll always find among the replies: Hollow Knight: Silk Song. That’s no surprise, fans have been clamoring for a release date since it launched as a standalone game in 2019, and Team Cherry hasn’t had that many updates since then. Back in 2022, it was at least confirmed that it would launch on Xbox Game Pass day one, and in 2023, the official Xbox Twitter account overconfidently claimed it would launch the same year. There’s plenty of reveal to come, and we’re already halfway through 2024 with still no indication of when it will be released – but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking if it will be part of next week’s Gamescom opening night livestream. What’s the answer? No.

Yesterday, Game Awards host Geoff Keighley said on his personal Twitter account: “To resolve the issue, there will be no Silksong at ONL on Tuesday. Team Cherry is still cooking.” For those fans who have somehow convinced themselves that this is the one It’s obviously going to be disappointing, but honestly it feels pretty normal for Silk Song at this point in time. Really, when it comes out, it comes out. There are too many games these days anyway. Just play something else while you wait, right?

This isn’t the first time Keighley has had to set expectations for his show. Ahead of the Summer Games Festival, Keighley made it clear that games like Kingdom Hearts 4, which is currently a bit MIA, wouldn’t be coming (but he didn’t do the same at Gamescom ONL, so let’s be disappointed, Kingdom Hearts fans) .
