Throughout the past 16 years, The Walking Deadfans have always had the certainty that a new year also meant the release of a new season of AMC’s iconic franchise or any of its multiple spin-offs. Unfortunately, things aren’t looking as promising nowadays. Now that The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has come to an end, there’s only one more post-apocalyptic project on the horizon, and that is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4. Beyond that, we’ll dive into uncharted waters.
AMC’s Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, Scott M. Gimple, has stated that the iconic saga as a whole is still in the “middle” of its life, if not “early” in it. That means the walkers will keep haunting audiences for many years to come. With that in mind, we can’t help but ask ourselves, what’s next? What other projects are set to come, and when exactly can we expect to see the last season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon? While there are no concrete answers as of yet, our time in the dark may be coming to an end.

There will be new The Walking Dead announcements at New York Comic Con
New York Comic Con is nearly upon us. From Thursday, October 8, to Sunday, October 11, movie studios, streaming platforms, TV networks, and comic book companies will make breaking announcements about their biggest franchises. The Walking Dead won’t be left behind, as AMC will host a “Spotlight” panel on Friday, October 9, at 3:30 PM.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 is bound to be a big part of the presentation, with showrunner David Zabel confirmed to attend alongside executive producer Scott M. Gimple and Melissa McBride, who plays the role of Carol. Unfortunately, we don’t know yet what news will be revealed about the beloved spin-off show. However, it isn’t far-fetched to assume we could finally get a concrete release date and the season’s first full-length trailer. The one thing we know for certain is that the panel will feature “the <a href="https://www.amc.com/blogs/amc-global-media-returns-to-nycc-s-main-stage-with-standout-panels-for-new-and-returning-series-and-never-before-seen-previews–1075993″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>debut of never-before-seen footage previewing the upcoming season,” although it remains to be seen whether it will be published online for everyone to see.
Fans are hopeful that we’ll also get new announcements from other projects. Perhaps the most likely scenario is that The Walking Dead: Dead City will be renewed for a fourth (and potentially final) season at NYCC. After all, Negan and Maggie’s latest adventure culminated on an open-ended note that suggests more adventures are on the horizon. As if that wasn’t enough, Lauren Cohan—who brings Maggie to life—revealed that there are already “outside-the-box ideas” for a new season.
While it is a long shot, maybe this would be the perfect time to reveal that long-awaited The Walking Dead reunion project starring the likes of Rick Grimes, Michonne, Maggie, Negan, Carol, and Daryl. Granted, that reveal is more wishful thinking, but then again, anything could happen in the post-apocalyptic world (and AMC knows fans are dying to watch that project).
Maybe AMC has some surprises up its sleeve, such as the reveal of a brand-new spin-off show or the announcement that seasons will expand beyond six episodes. In any case, NYCC is one of the last big opportunities to reveal what’s next for the world of The Walking Dead, and it seems AMC will make the most of this opportunity. On the bright side, it won’t be long now before we discover what surprises lie in store.
AMC’s The Walking Dead panel will take place on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at New York Comic Con.
