Production on ‘The Batman: Part II’ has been paused as director Matt Reeves deals with a “family matter”
After suffering from multiple delays, it felt as though The Batman: Part II finally landed on its permanent release date of February 18, 2028, as production had begun in the United Kingdom. Production was paused this week, however, due to personal issues with director Matt Reeves.
Since the release of The Batman in 2022 and the subsequent delays of its sequel, there has been much speculation about the personal issues that have ailed writer and director Matt Reeves, which have reportedly partially contributed to the setbacks.
DCD Studios said in a statement announcing the latest production pause that Reeves was dealing with a “family matter.”
“Production on The Batman Part IIhas been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon,” the statement read.

According to entertainment inside Grace Randolph, while Reeves’ current situation isn’t identical to that of the late Chadwick Boseman’s — who died suddenly in August 2020 after an undisclosed battle with cander — “it’s close.”
“If you knew what Matt Reeves was dealing with, you would just leave him alone, as I’m going to do,” Randolph explained on her YouTube showBeyond The Trailer.
“Really, it’s not a Chadwick Boseman situation, but it’s close. And I hope it doesn’t turn into that. You should leave Matt Reeves alone.”
