Michael Douglas accidentally “crossed the line” with Julia Roberts during a drunken night in the ’90s.
The veteran actor fesses up to several embarrassing mistakes in his One Helluva Ridememoir, including an incident that ended his friendship with the Pretty Womanstar during her early rise to fame. Douglas wrote that the unfortunate interaction occurred during production on Flatliners, the 1990 sci-fi film starring Roberts and her then-beau Kiefer Sutherland.
“While we were shooting the film, there was a Golden Globes party,” Douglas recalled. “I was there for Wall Street, and Julia was there for Mystic Pizza. She was dating Kiefer Sutherland and brought him to an after-party.”
As for Douglas, he brought along his 13-year-old son, Cameron, whom he shares with ex-wife Diandra.

“We were at the bar, and Julia had her arm around my son, kind of nuzzling him,” the actor wrote. “To me, in that moment, he looked stunned… But I was pretty drunk.”
Douglas, who elsewhere in the memoir admitted that a “typical night” out for him involved “probably five drinks and a gram of coke,” wrote that his perception of the incident may have been clouded. Ultimately, his reaction was not well received.

The Basic Instinctstar wrote that upon spotting Roberts with his son, he lashed out at the actress, telling her, “Take your hands off my son and take that Golden Globe and stick it where the sun don’t shine.'”
The next morning, Douglas had to face the consequences.
“My producing partner Rick Bieber called me and said, ‘We need to talk, Michael,'” the actor recounted. “I’d crossed a line with the most in-demand young actress in Hollywood.”

In an effort to patch things up, Douglas sent Roberts flowers and apologized to her and Sutherland, who was also present for the outburst, in person.
“Luckily, they forgave me enough to get through that and finish the picture,” Douglas wrote. “I remained friends with Kiefer. Julia, not so much.”
Douglas noted that the “wildly embarrassing” incident stuck with him “for years.”
Entertainment Weeklyhas reached out to Roberts for comment.
In the vein of his awkward confrontation with Roberts, Douglas does not hold back in his new memoir. The actor shares extraordinarily candid accounts of his drug and alcohol use, writing that he abused coke so heavily that he once fell asleep with a straw in his nose. The actor also wrote that he never drank or did drugs while working, explaining that it was a conscious choice that he began making after nearly vomiting on the set of Running.
