DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) —Caesars <a href="https://comicvibe.com/us-lawmakers-pitch-tax-credit-bill-for-entertainment-industry/” title=”US lawmakers pitch tax credit bill for entertainment industry”>Entertainment shareholders have approved a $17.6 billion acquisition by Fertitta Entertainment, but local officials say the deal is not expected to change operations at Caesars Virginia in Danville.
Shareholders approved the merger Sept. 22. Under the agreement, Fertitta Entertainment would acquire Caesars Entertainment in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $17.6 billion, including about $11.9 billion in Caesars debt.
The acquisition still needs to clear remaining regulatory and other closing conditions before it is finalized.
Caesars Virginia opened in Danville in December 2024 and has become a significantved nearly $31.4 million from Caesars’ minimum gaming fee and casino gaming tax. The city budgeted about $35 million in casino-related revenue for fiscal year 2026
Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones said the acquisition will not affect the city’s existing agreement with Caesars.
“This deal, um, we’re happy for them; it won’t impact Danville whatsoever,” Jones said. “Our agreement with Caesars is solid. We had attorneys at the table. And I’m glad we did exactly what we did.”
City officials and Caesars representatives have also said day-to-day operations at the Danville property are expected to remain the same, with the property expected to continue operating under the Caesars Virginia name.
The Danville casino generated about $33.1 million in adjusted gaming revenue in August, the highest among Virginia’s five operating casinos that month
The Fertitta acquisition is expected to move forward as the companies work through the remaining regulatory requirements.
