Toho’s body-swap fantasy anime’s 2nd cour, ‘The First Royal Outing,’ adds Yuichi Nakamura, Shunichi Toki, and Chiaki Kobayashi to the cast as Reirin’s 2 overprotective brothers and a village leader in the south.
Toho animation has revealed the first details of the second cour (broadcast block) of Though I Am an Inept Villainess, the body-swap fantasy anime adapted from Satsuki Nakamura’s light novel series, which returns in January 2027 with a new arc titled “The First Royal Outing.” The announcement, made following the final episode of the first cour, included a new key visual and three additions to the voice cast.
The anime premiered this past July and streams on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Disney+, with Netflix carrying it in Asia. In the story, the adored noblewoman Kou Reirin is magically swapped into the body of the condemned villainess Shu Keigetsu, who used forbidden magic to make the switch, leaving each to navigate the other’s life.
The new arc picks up with the disturbances in the inner court settled and a friendship budding between the two. In early autumn, the Harvest Festival ritual, in which the Crown Prince and the Maidens wish for a bountiful harvest, is set in the southern lands ruled by the Shu clan, and Keigetsu must host it without a consort as her guardian while Reirin, thrilled about her first royal outing, supports her. On arrival an accident interrupts the ritual, Keigetsu’s spell runs out of control, the two swap bodies once again, and in the confusion the post-swap Reirin is abducted. Reirin’s two overprotective brothers, Kou Keikou and Kou Keishou, get involved as a new mastermind works to frame Keigetsu.
Mitsue Yamasaki directs, with Doga Kobo producing the animation. Yuichi Nakamura and Shunichi Toki join the voice cast as Reirin’s brothers, the eldest, Keikou, and the second-eldest, Keishou; Chiaki Kobayashi voices Unran, a young village leader in the southern territories who grows in importance as the story expands. Character visuals for the three were released with the key visual.
