Remember the controversy surrounding then-Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray and video games?
It seemed to reach a pinnacle in June of 2024, when FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd blasted the QB for his gaming
“He’s accurate, he’s a playmaker, he got a poorly owned franchise to the playoffs in a tough division,” Cowherd said. “I think the gaming thing is a huge stigma. I think older GMs look at it and think, ‘Jesus, grow the eff up. Like, this guy’s addicted to gaming.’”
But was Murray’s affinity for video games, particularly Call of Duty, overblown?
A former teammate of the quarterback addressed it in a recent interview, saying the video games were “never really a thing.”
Trey McBride made the comments on Bussin’ With The Boys
He said: “It was never really a thing. He never talked about playing video games, but every single week he was in the media … he never talked about gaming or anything. I think they were just finding any stat to get on him.”
McBride added: “Kyler’s not the tallest guy. He’s a baseball guy, so he throws from every different arm angle. He’s scrambling around so he’s a very different quarterback than I’ve played with. It was cool, we had a lot of success together.”
Murray appeared to need a fresh start in the NFL and the Vikings have given it to him, signing him as a free agent in the offseason after Arizona released him
How much success will he have in Minnesota this season?
