Initial impressions of Borderlands movie were not good – WGB

The Borderlands movie premiered in Los Angeles a few days ago. Critics who saw it were not impressed. As soon as the embargo was lifted, many of them took to social media to express their initial thoughts. But now, full reviews are pouring in, and they don’t paint a pretty picture.

That’s no surprise—the movie’s trailer didn’t inspire much confidence, either. Director Eli Roth doesn’t have a great track record. The cast is filled with big stars like Cate Blanchett and Jack Black. However, people were quick to point out that they were both quite…well, old. The film spent a hell of a lot of time in development before it was finally released.

Movie review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes currently lists 27 reviews for the film, giving it a measly 4% rating on the Tomatometer.

Dan Jolin wrote a review of “Empire,” giving the movie 2 stars out of 5. He discussed how the movie felt like Guardians of the Galaxy but never quite clicked. Borderlands so want to become Guardians of the Galaxy. “It has tons of retro pin drops (including a battle that starts with Motörhead’s Ace of Spades) and offers as much violence as the 12A rating will allow (there’s even one where they kill a huge part of the tentacled monster) inside out), but it doesn’t come close to capturing the same protector Space magic. Dan wrote.

However, Dan did take a moment to praise Cate Blanchett, who seemed to be the highlight of the film for many critics.

Cynthia Vinney, who reviewed “Looper,” gave the film a 3 out of 10. She also noted that the film itself seemed to address casting criticisms, even mentioning that Cate Blanchett’s Lilith is significantly older than her game counterpart. “Roland’s short stature has also been criticized. It’s unclear why these changes were made,” Vinny said.

Vinny also described the film as having a habit of telling rather than showing. “We heard that the Eridians were aliens who went extinct and left behind really cool stuff,” Cynthia said. “We’re told that little Tina is a clone. We’re told that Lilith’s mother left her with Dr. Tanis. If these things weren’t shown to us, they wouldn’t have the same intrinsic appeal, so it’s The movie misses some important opportunities.

The cast of “Borderland” is observing all the negative reviews.

In Backlot magazine, Shakyl Lambert was even less fond of the film. He gave it a score of 2 out of 10. Borderlands It was a huge failure. When it comes to video game movies, we want it to satisfy long-time fans of the games while attracting new audiences. exist Borderlands‘, both cases fail. Longtime fans will hate it because it doesn’t capture even an ounce of the game’s charm, while casual fans will just get bored and rewatch it Guardians of the Galaxy instead.

Lambert dug into the review and said the characters were “grossly miscast from top to bottom,” before destroying the movie with this killer line: …it all looks like a celebrity taking part in Borderlands Themed escape room, not an actual movie.

The only positive review on Rotten Tomatoes comes from Youtuber Grace Randolph. Rotten Tomatoes quotes her review as saying: “I’ve never played any of these games, but I’m excited for Blanchett to star in a movie like this – and do it well! I do wish the script had been better tuned to Adapted to her age. Blanchett fans will love this, but not sure about other times.

But it’s worth noting that Randolph’s own reviewers of the film didn’t seem too happy with her review. Many of these comments were in response to the amount of time Grace spent talking about Cate Blanchett and Joan Crawford. Other reviews noted that Grace spent a lot of time talking about whether she liked the movie or not.

Finally, The Independent’s Clarisse Loughrey summed up the film, saying, “This film takes us back in time, and the grace and sensitivity with which the studios made these films is like Drunk The person tried to order a chicken nugget at 3am and she obviously witnessed my Saturday morning shenanigans and she gave it a 1 out of 5.

No doubt more reviews will come in as the movie opens in the U.S. on August 9, so there’s still hope for Borderlands to do well. After all, this isn’t the first time fans and critics have been divided over a film’s quality. But honestly, after watching the trailer, I can’t help but feel that the critics were right about this film.
