Swedish developer Star Stable Entertainment has laid off 20% of its employees following a restructuring program.

In a statement on LinkedIn, interim CEO James Watkins said “this step is necessary to secure the long-term future of Star Stable.” The developer is known for its multiplayer role-playing horse adventure game Star Stable Online.

“Making this decision was incredibly challenging and does not diminish the contribution these team members have made,” said Watkins.

“By reducing our operating costs and refocusing our reto adapt, grow, and deliver memorable experiences for players today and for years to come.”

Watkins concluded: “Right now, our immediate focus is supporting the talented colleagues who are leaving us. I want to express my sincere personal gratitude for their hard work, creativity, and dedication. We are fully committed to helping them navigate this transition with care and respect.”

In 2021, Nordisk Games became a majority shareholder of Star Stable Entertainment after increasing its stake in the company.

Nordisk Games owns 57% of the developer, having previously purchased a “substantial minority” share – estimated to be $17 million – in the company in May 2018, followed by a 40% stake later that year.
