Rounding out the top five are Des Moines/Ames, Columbus, Omaha and Knoxville.
Nielsen used eight metrics to determine the rankings: apparel purchases, event attendance, streaming, social media following, TV viewership, radio listening, betting intent and overall interest level.
Ohio State affinity helped lead three markets into the top 20 (Columbus, Dayton and Cleveland-Akron). Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, Georgia and Tennessee each contributed to two markets in the top 20.
Omaha leads the way in the TV viewership index, and is No. 2 in radio listening and No. 3 in apparel. Where the market takes a hit is with betting affinity, as Nebraska doesn’t have any legal mobile sports betting.
