Actor-filmmaker Dhanush has added another milestone to his illustrious career after receiving double recognition at the 72nd National Film Awards. His directorial venture Raayanwas named Best Tamil Film, while his performance in Captain Miller earned him a Special Mention, making it a memorable day for the National Award-winning star.
Dhanush celebrates double National Award honour
Soon after the winners were announced, Dhanush took to social media to express his gratitude. Sharing an emotional note, the actor thanked the National Film Awards jury and selection committee for recognising both films. He also acknowledged the efforts of his cast, crew, the media and fans, saying their unwavering support had played a significant role in his journey.
“I am truly humbled and overwhelmed,” Dhanush wrote, adding that the recognition meant far more than just another accolade.
Speaking about Captain Miller, the actor admitted that the Special Mention held a special place in his heart. Dhanush described the role as one of the finest performances of his career and said the honour made the achievement even more meaningful because of his personal connection with the film.
Raayan marks Dhanush’s directing milestone
While the acting honour was special, Dhanush revealed that Raayanwinning Best Tamil Film was the highlight of the day. The film marked his second directorial venture and his 50th film as a lead actor, making the National Award an emotional milestone in his filmmaking journey.
Calling it his first National Award as a director, Dhanush said it was a moment he would cherish forever. He reflected on how every first achievement holds a unique place in an artist’s life and described the recognition as a blessing.
The actor also thanked his fans for standing by him throughout his career, adding that their constant encouragement had inspired him to keep pushing his creative boundaries. He signed off his note with his trademark phrase, “Life is shaped by your thoughts.”
Released in 2024, Raayanis a Tamil neo-noir action thriller written, directed by and starring Dhanush. Set in North Chennai, the film follows Kathavaraayan, a humble food truck owner who is forced to raise his younger siblings after tragedy strikes his family. Blending action with an emotional story of sacrifice, loyalty and revenge, the film emerged as both a commercial and critical success.
With Raayanearning top honours and Captain Miller bringing him another acting recognition, Dhanush has once again reinforced his reputation as one of Indian cinema’s most versatile talents.
