I’m so glad the show went with a different route for her character.

Carol Peletier is awesome in the show, going from a weak woman to a badass warrior, but in the comic book, she is a completely different person. Carol is revealed to be a young woman, who already lost her husband, prior to meeting Rick Grimes and his group. She is with her daughter Sophia, and is now trying to adapt to the new changes of her harsh world.
Only…it doesn’t exactly pan well like it does for her version in the television show.
Carol slowly goes through a downfall, becoming completely insane as time goes on, and as crazy as this sounds, I was thrilled that she died.

Carol constantly relied on men to protect her.
This pissed me off so much in the comic. Carol always expected the men in the group to keep her safe, such as Tyreese, or Rick Grimes. She never wanted to fight, and I don’t think she ever lifted a finger one time throughout the entire comic book.
Her character was weak as hell.
-
Carol attempted a suicide attempt in front of her daughter.
Carol had a strong romantic relationship with Tyreese, a huge difference compared to the show, with the two of them forming a strong friendship than a romantic one. Once Michonne was introduced in the comic, she instantly started a relationship with Tyreese, knowing that he was a relationship with Carol. Tyreese gave in, and Carol witnessed his cheating, and then attempted to off herself in front of her own daughter.
This was pretty selfish to me, because I always felt like she didn’t really care about her kid…which brings me to my next reason.

Carol put herself above the needs of her daughter.
Carol in the show was vastly different when it came to Sophia. Carol deeply loved her daughter, but when it comes to the comic book version, I think she was a total piece of work. Carol had her own mental issues to deal with, and instead of protecting her daughter, she only focused on herself, always worried about her love life, or the fear of being alone. She even admits that she married her abusive husband for this reason, because she was afraid of being alone, which means that Sophia was exposed to this crap behind the scenes before the end of the world.
Carol was one selfish woman, completely neglecting her daughter’s own needs.

Carol wanted a polyamorous relationship with Rick and Lori Grimes.
I wish I was joking about this crazy storyline, but yeah, this actually does happen. Carol proposes to Lori that she wanted to marry Lori and Rick, and wants to form a romantic relationship with both of them. She even kissed both of them when she alone with each of them, and they both expressed moments of shock, not wanting anything to do with her. I didn’t blame Rick and Lori reacting like that, because Carol was just insane for thinking they would consider a relationship like that.
They were perfectly happy with each other, and didn’t want to add someone else to their relationship, but in Carol’s delusional mind, she assumed they would be totally fine with it.

Carol ended her life, not wanting to be judged anymore for her insanity.
Carol decided to talk to a random zombie, and allowed the creature to bite her, no longer wanting to live. Carol hated the thought of being judged for her crazy self, and wanted to end her life. I didn’t blame anyone for judging her character, because her acts were just so out of touch with reality, so it made sense why people would rather stray away from her.
What’s worse is that Sophia witnessed her mom’s death. Again…Carol did not give a shit about her kid.
The TV show version of Carol would have kicked Carol’s ass from the comics, or possibly killed her for being a major liability to the group.
What did you think of Carol from the comics?
