The June 9th teaser for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake left viewers with many unanswered questions. Followers could soon learn more about the Switch 2 game if a new leak is accurate. A Redditor captured a Google search result, suggesting that pre-orders would begin on August 4th.

    How believable is the leak?

Naive_Associate_15 shared an image showing the possible start time for reservations at GameStop. Not long after, the text was revised and the date removed. As experienced with the GTA 6 Best Buy rumor, it’s wise to have some doubts about any leak. Nevertheless, the timing could make sense based on Nintendo’s track record.

Reliable insider NateTheHate previously hinted that it would be a major holiday title. Many fans anticipate a Nintendo Direct to kick off pre-orders. Using Tears of the Kingdom as an example, there was a 3-4 month window between a showcase and launch. That would point to an Ocarina of Time remake release date in October or November.

The company’s August schedule is also suspiciously bare, except for Gamescom on the 26th. A Direct several weeks beforehand with a new trailer could allow for a demo of the Zelda game at the event.

    A console selling candidate

Another factor is the impending Switch 2 price increase on September 1st. The title could quiet critics claiming that the console lacks a system seller, with a limited edition Zelda console rumored earlier. Starting Ocarina of Time pre-orders while the hardware remains more affordable may further boost sales.

Nintendo still hasn’t properly celebrated the Zelda 40th anniversary. While it technically fell on February 21st, the company could yet make announcements. In addition to a new game, The Legend of Zelda movie premieres in April 2027, and fans have yet to see a trailer.

The GameStop leak didn’t include a price, a mention of a collector’s edition, or a release date. In addition to those lack of details, it’s unclear how faithful the Switch 2 game will be to the original. Although vague, a prior edited Google search result described the Ocarina of Time project as a “full remake” with “stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.”
