MUMBAI: : Lights, camera, new boss. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (‘Z’) has named Suraj Singh business head of Zee Studios, handing a seasoned producer the keys to its movies business. Singh will be based at the company’s headquarters in Mumbai and will report to Punit Goenka, chief executive officer. His appointment takes effect from 10 November 2026.

The brief is broad and the ambition plain. Singh will be responsible for strengthening the studios portfolio, driving production, distribution and commercial excellence, building strategic partnerships and accelerating growth across the content value chain. He will also focus on further enhancing Zee Studios’ competitive positioning, driving a balanced portfolio of theatrical and digital-first projects and deepening collaborations across the creative ecosystem. The aim is sustainable business growth and long-term value creation. That is a lot of hats, but the job description reads like a studio that knows where it wants to go.

The timing is neat. Zee Studios, a leading pan-India film studio, continues to sharpen its focus on building a robust slate of high-quality films across languages and genres, strengthening its pan-India footprint and unlocking greater value across the content lifecycle. It recently unveiled an expansive slate encompassing commercial entertainers, action movies, romance, thrillers, mythology-based offerings and suspense, among others. A slate that wide needs a leader who can juggle creative instinct with commercial discipline. As the studio enters its next phase of growth, it remains committed to nurturing compelling storytelling, developing scalable movie franchises, strengthening partnerships, expanding distribution capabilities and creating cinematic experiences that resonate with audiences across markets.

Goenka framed the hire as part of a wider strategy. “At ‘Z’, human capital is one of our most valuable assets, and we remain focused on strengthening our leadership capabilities across key business segments to drive the company’s long-term growth ambitions,” he said. “Zee Studios is an important pillar of our content ecosystem and has built a rich legacy through its storytelling and differentiated film portfolio. I am pleased to welcome Suraj onboard, to realise our long-term vision for the movies business. His rich experience and expertise, coupled with a strong track record of driving production and commercial success, makes him well-positioned to lead Zee Studios into its next phase of growth.” The message is clear: the company continues to enhance its core leadership team with a strategic focus on its growth aspirations, and movies sit firmly in that plan.

Singh, for his part, sounded eager. “Over the last three decades, Zee Studios has established a strong reputation for championing distinctive narratives,” he said. “I am excited to join the team and build on this momentum by fostering strong creative partnerships and unlocking new opportunities across theatrical and digital platforms. Audiences are increasingly demanding diverse, high-quality storytelling and I look forward to creating meaningful cinematic experiences that entertain this cohort and drive sustainable growth for the business.” His emphasis on both theatrical and digital platforms mirrors the balanced portfolio the studio has set out to build.

The résumé backs the rhetoric. Singh has over two decades of experience across film production, content development, business strategy, partnerships and studio operations. He has built and scaled content businesses, led marquee projects and delivered high-impact storytelling with strong commercial outcomes. He was previously associated with BLIVE Productions as founder and producer, and before that held leadership positions across Dhoni Entertainment, Inspired Entertainment and Balaji Motion Pictures. That mix of entrepreneur and studio insider is the sort of profile that suits a business needing both creative nerve and operational grip.

As Zee Studios further strengthens its proposition by offering quality cinematic experiences across platforms, Singh’s industry expertise and entrepreneurial mindset will play a pivotal role in accelerating the studio’s long-term creative and business ambitions. For a company that describes itself as a technology company with a presence in over 190 countries and a reach of over 1.4 billion people, a strong movies engine is a valuable piece of the content puzzle. Zee has bet on a producer’s producer. The next reel will show whether the bet pays off.
