Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is returning to Disney+ early next year, but fans won’t have to wait that long to find out what happens next for Peter Parker.
Marvel Comics has announced a new four-issue Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man series launching this December. Set between seasons of the animated series, the comic will help set the stage for season 2 while bringing some iconic Spider-Man villains into this universe for the first time.
Writer Christos Gage and artist Eric Gapstur are reuniting for the series after previously collaborating on Marvel’s 2024 Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man prequel comic. This time, they’ll pick up with Peter after the events of the show’s first season.
Things aren’t exactly going smoothly for the young Spider-Man. Peter has begun drifting away from his friends, while Norman Osborn may have stepped away from the spider business. Harry Osborn, however, isn’t convinced that chapter is truly closed. Something strange is happening at Oscorp, sending Spider-Man and his friends looking for answers.
Gage confirmed the comic is being developed in coordination with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell, making its story part of the animated series’ continuity.
“I’m beyond excited to return to the world of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!” Gage said. “Just like last time, showrunner Jeff Trammell has been incredibly generous about coordinating in a way that makes our story a firm part of the show’s continuity.”
Gage also teased what readers can expect from Gapstur’s artwork, casually dropping some intriguing hints about who Peter will encounter.
“Wait until you see his work on Spidey, Daredevil, and classic Spider-Man villains finally making their debut here…whoops, spoiler!”
Those villains could prove particularly important as the comic leads into season 2. According to Marvel, the four-issue series will include the official debut of iconic Spider-Man supervillains within the world of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
The Disney+ animated series puts a new spin on Peter Parker’s formative years as Spider-Man while drawing visual and storytelling inspiration from the character’s early comic book history. Marvel Animation has more planned for Peter when the series returns early next year, with additional details about the new season still to come.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 arrives at comic shops this December with a main cover by Leonardo Romero and a variant cover by Luciano Vecchio.
