These days? It means trying to remember which streaming service has the show everyone at work is suddenly talking about.

And this fall, there’s no shortage of contenders.

From high-stakes thrillers and twisted true stories to reboots, sci-fi and shows that sound completely bonkers in the best possible way, the upcoming TV season is giving us plenty of excuses to stay in.

We picked 10 shows from the season’s most anticipated lineup that caught our attention. Not necessarily the biggest names. Not necessarily the obvious choices. Just the ones that could give you something to talk about after the credits roll.

1. Crew Girl

If you thought high school drama had already explored every possible angle, here comes Crew Girl.

The story follows a teenager whose life gets turned upside down by a family scandal, eventually putting her in an unexpected new environment: a boys’ varsity rowing team.

That setup alone raises enough questions to make this one worth watching. Who doesn’t love a show where you have absolutely no idea how the characters are going to navigate the situation they’ve been thrown into?

2. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story

And considering how much fascination still surrounds the case more than a century later, it’s easy to see why Hollywood keeps finding new ways into it.

3. American Hostage

Imagine being trapped inside a terrifying situation where the clock is working against everyone involved.

That’s the basic tension behind American Hostage, which takes viewers back to a real kidnapping from 1977.
