I’ve written far too many of these posts over the last month or so, but many of you are absolutely loving the fact that you can change your smartphone into something a little more nostalgic, so although we’ve featured the GameCube launcher, the PSP launcher and the PS2 launcher, it’s now time to put a spotlight on MrRubik’s Nintendo 3DS Launcher

This was a launcher that was released back in 2025, but due to demand, we’re here letting you know it’s a real thing and that it’s free to download todayher is, it’s quite simply an app on your smartphone that changes the UI and overall feel of your phone to match that of a specific piece of software, in this case, the popular 3DS

So you’ll see that it changes icons, typography, apps, and settings to match that of the handheld, all while keeping the functionality of your phone as easy as possible. But it also comes with a few extra features too that make it a little more appealing to retro gamers in comparison to the standard Android UI we are all used to

In the developer’s terms: “N3D Launcher combines visual customisation, app organization and a strong interface identity. Create a home setup with folders, colour themes, quick access shortcuts and a more expressive look than a conventional launcher”, alongside features such as:

    • Retro-inspired dual-screen interface.
    • Customizable launcher with app grid and folders.
    • Color themes and visual settings for your home screen.
    • Animations and transitions for a more dynamic experience.
    • Built-in modules such as camera, notes and activity log.
    • Local Friends List using device contacts, calls and WhatsApp access only if you grant permission.
    • Local device authentication for selected protected shortcuts.
    • Multilanguage support.

One cool feature, which is shown off in the video, is the fact that emulators and games are stored in the “Nintendo eShop”, and it will technically be a shortcut to other games on your phone and maybe even ROM files in emulators, too

This looks like a fun, nostalgic way for Nintendo 3DS fans to spice up their Android device. It is worth noting that MrRubik hasn’t answered our questions regarding the use of AI and if he has the rights to use Nintendo’s logos and likely copyrighted images for this creation. I understand MrRubik isn’t charging customers for this, which is perhaps why Nintendo hasn’t come knocking yet, but if GenAi is used, that ain’t cool. We’ll update this article should MrRubik ever respond
