Yona of the Dawn Sequel Confirms Pierrot Films as Its Anime Production Studio

Yona of the Dawn has confirmed that Pierrot Films will handle production of its upcoming anime sequel. The series’ official X account announced the studio confirmation.

Pierrot Films is a division of Studio Pierrot, the animation company behind the original Yona of the Dawn television anime. The original series aired in 2014 and ran for 24 episodes, followed by three original video animations. The newly confirmed production studio is now associated with the franchise’s next anime project.

The story follows Princess Yona of the Kouka Kingdom, whose sheltered life ends when her cousin Su-won kills her father and takes the throne. Forced to flee the palace with her bodyguard, Son Hak, Yona sets out to find the legendary four dragon warriors. Her journey gradually changes her from a protected royal into someone determined to defend her kingdom and its people.

Created by Mizuho Kusanagi, Yona of the Dawn began as a manga in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine in August 2009. The series concluded in December 2025, with its chapters collected in 48 volumes. It features fantasy adventure, political conflict, and romance, following Yona as she learns more about her kingdom’s history and the power connected to the legendary dragon warriors.

The original television adaptation was directed by Kazuhiro Yoneda, with Shinichi Inotsume handling the scripts and Kunihiko Ryo composing the music. Studio Pierrot produced the series, which aired between October 2014 and March 2015.
