Microsoft is finally improving the Xbox achievements system, taking inspiration from one of <a href="https://comicvibe.com/major-playstation-portal-system-update-rolled-out-for-september/” title=”Major PlayStation Portal System Update Rolled Out for September”>PlayStation’s best features – and Xbox achievement hunters can finally rejoice.
Over the years, one of PlayStation’s most satisfying features has been its Trophy system, introduced with the PS3 in 2008. However, PlayStation wasn’t the first mainstream platform to introduce the feature, with that honour belonging to Xbox 360 in 2005. That said, Xbox never quite perfected its Achievement system.
PlayStation has four Trophy tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The Platinum Trophy is awarded after earning every other Trophy in a game, complete with a satisfying animation and chime. Xbox allows players to earn 1,000G, or more with expansions, but has never had its true Platinum equivalent. That could finally be about to change.
Here’s what’s changing for Xbox achievement hunters
As brought to our attention by social media content creator and Xbox gamer Klobrille, Xbox is getting its own Platinum Trophy equivalent called the “Mythic Achievement”.
The most common Xbox equivalent right now is the ability to earn 1,000G for completing a game’s base Achievement list. And sometimes you’ll earn a “Rare” trophy, but that value can vary organically depending on how many players continue to unlock it.
The Mythic will also be accompanied by its own very satisfying chime, and hopefully an animation to make Xbox gamers feel like they’ve earned something truly special.
“I wish that XBOX had something like platinum trophies,” said Reddit user nightookami, in a post made several years ago. “I like Gamerscore better than the trophy system, except I wish we had a number next to our Gamerscore that showed how many games we 100%-ed or something to that effect!”
Xbox gamers wanting their own Platinum Trophy predates that Reddit post by several years, so this news will be something patient gamers have been waiting a long time for.
When will Xbox Mythic Achievements be available on consoles?
At the time of writing, Xbox hasn’t announced a date for when the new Mythic Achievement will be available to everyone. Right now, it’s still in its beta phase.
However, given that it has already appeared in the Xbox PC app, it could suggest that a wider rollout is getting closer. There’s no indication yet that it will launch alongside Gears of War: E-Day on October 2, 2026, but it would certainly be a fitting time for Xbox to introduce the feature. We’ll have our fingers crossed.

“They never had a Platinum trophy equivalent?” asked VaughnPrime, replying to the tweet by klobrille.
“Some games did, but that had to be added to their achievement lists and had their own Gamerscore. So kinda?” replied tripokemon22. “But outside of saying 100% on the achievements list, no. So this is a good addition.”
“It’s a system based on numbers; all achievements are 1000 points and give a 100% completion. I personally prefer the Gamerscore system and points over the Trophy System, but the new badge is a good addition,” said STARXKI. “Xbox also has a more enjoyable sound for normal and rare achievements than Trophy.”
“Finally, a real reason to 100% something. That unlock sound better go hard,” declared JPipo86.
