Microsoft’s gaming division, Xbox, is reportedly rethinking its PC strategy, with a known insider suggesting that it could even move away from Steam.
According to the Xbox Two Podcast, Windows Central’s Jez Corden stated, “I do know like Microsoft has some plans with regards to how they show up on PC. And I don’t know what that pertains to with regards to Steam, but the plans that I know about, and I’m being very careful here, kind of suggest it gives them a window to potentially pull out of Steam. So, I would not be shocked if eventually we do see a universe where Microsoft quits Steam.”
As of now, these remain only speculations, so take this information with a grain of salt.
Users on Reddit reacted to this with mixed opinions. One user stated, “I think it is probably because the next xbox is gonna be a pc. So they are gonna want people to buy the games through the xbox store for windows.” Meanwhile, another user commented, “So no steam, no PlayStation. Do they think people will rush out to buy an Xbox for Gears E-Day?”

In other news, Microsoft has announcedXbox Backward Compatibility for PC, allowing users to play classic Xbox console games on PCs and supported handheld devices.
