Following last weeks surprise announcement that saw Xbox sign on to publish Kojima Productions ‘PHSYINT’, Microsoft are certainly capitalising on the fan reaction, and have now shared new images of Xbox CEO Asha Sharma visiting the studio.
In case you missed it, last week brought some proper video game industry drama when Sony casually posted on social media that after ‘careful consideration’, PlayStation have decided to ‘step away’ from collaborating with Kojima Productions on PHYSINT.
An update from PlayStation Studios: After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on its project PHYSINT. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima’s vision for the game.
Our relationship remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining creative cooperation, and we look forward to continued close collaboration with Hideo Kojima and his award-winning independent studio in the future.
A shock to be sure, but what caused even more surprise was Xbox suddenly snapping it up, with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announcing that Xbox has signed the game, with a follow up post directly on Xbox Wire.

Now, new photos have been released with the Xbox team visiting Kojima Productions, signing Kojima’s fancy wall and strutting their stuff in kitted out dual-branded jackets. Sharma shared a brief note with some of the images on socials, saying – “Working day with Hideo Kojima and team on OD, PHYSINT and the future.“
Xbox are certainly making a very big deal of signing PHYSINT following Sony’s cancellation of the project back in June. In terms of why that happened, Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier shared a few details in a new report, sharing that a number of factors played into Sony’s decision to walk away, from poor sales of Death Stranding, the lack of exclusivity for PS5 and more.
Despite the big Xbox reset that’s seen a frightening number of layoffs (With more planned throughout the year) and multiple studios divested, Xbox have been clear that despite these new strategies, they’re investing just as much as usual. With both ODand PHYSINT now partnered directly with Xbox, it’s certainly a good start.
