Woolworths is bringing back a wildly popular supermarket collectible

Customers will once again be able to get their hands on Ooshies – the toy that took the country by storm in 2020

From July 15, shoppers who spend $30 or more in a single transaction will receive one of 40 unique characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, or Star Wars

In the past, they’ve only been available at supermarkets, but Woolies is expanding the promotion this year

The collectables, including Spider-Man, Moana, the Hulk, and a gold R2-D2, will be available until August 25 or while stocks last

In 2020, customers went crazy over the viral collectables, with one ultra-rare green Yoda Ooshie listed on eBay for $99,400

This year’s range has improved sustainability, as the Ooshies are crafted from 97 per cent recycled materials and backed by a nationwide in-store recycling program

Customers can also return any unused Ooshies from the new range to Woolworths stores for recycling until October 31

A special Collector Case will also be available at Woolworths, Big W and Metro stores for $10

It includes a board game and two exclusive glow-in-the-dark Disney Ooshies to help shoppers kick-start their collection

“Disney Ooshies have been incredibly popular with our customers in the past, so we’re thrilled to bring them back to make the weekly grocery run even more rewarding,” Sean Barrett, chief marketing officer at Woolworths Group, said

“By expanding the program across Woolworths, BIG W, and MILKRUN, we’ve made it simpler for families to unlock those rewards and complete their collection.”

What is the rarest Ooshie of all time?

The rarest Ooshies of all time are the ultra-rare Furry Simba from the 2019 Woolworths Lion King promotion, and the Furry Thor and Furry Baby Yoda (The Child) from the 2020 Disney+ collection

Only 100 of each were produced, making them legendary among collectors

The craze for the tiny toys kicked off in 2019

One farmer copped backlash after cutting a super-rare Ooshie in half live on television

Victorian farmers Melisa Portingale and Stephen Black initially decided to use their Furry Simba, one of only 100 made, to try and help raise funds for their bone dry land

“We were asking about $5,000 for it,” Ms Portingale revealed on Channel Nine’s The Today Show

But after backlash from the public on Facebook, they decided to tweak their request and instead ask for direct help in exchange for the Lion King-themed Ooshie

“I decided to go down this path because we were sort of really desperate for money to help the farm,” Ms Portingale said

“I put a post up on Facebook asking if anyone wanted to buy it and copped a lot of abuse from it so I decided to ask about water instead which seems to be the more relevant issue at hand.”

She said the hate from several people was “just awful” with some even making “suicidal” threats

In a dramatic twist, Mr Black cut the Ooshie in half live on-air with a pair of scissors after revealing they’d had enough of the abuse
